Best Thin Pizza in Philly 7/31/2010

Lazaro's is the best pie in the city. I am only sorry I lived in the city since I was 22 and did not find them til the age of 28. It's like a NY style pie with paper thin crust and the best sweet sauce. We usually get extra cheese, also. I have to say, I have never had bad service there. They are always very nice to the point that I thought they had great customer service, and am shocked to see so many people say otherwise. Go get this pie - you will not regret it if you like the thin foldable style pizza. Pros: Thin foldable crust, sweet sauce, huge pie Cons: none! more

Sometimes surly service but really good food 10/1/2009

The people working there can be a bit surly but the food is good and it's always delivered hot and fast. I'd give the pizza a B or maybe a B+ (although I have friends who rate it the best), and I'd give the steaks, hoagies and burgers an enthusiastic A. Overall, the best place of its kind in the Rittenhouse Square area. more

GOOOOOOD!!! 6/10/2009

Thinking the delivery guy would call me on a specific mobile phone of mine...I carried that one phone in my pocket waiting for the call. He called on another phone of mine which was in a different part of the house. Finally he rang my doorbell and delivered the food. When I got back to my kitchen I see my second phone indicating a missed call...I listen to the message and it's the Lazaro's delivery guy saying, and I quote, ""ANSWER YOUR F_CKING PHONE! SH_T"". Nice. I used to order from Lazaro's frequently...NEVER AGAIN! Bastards! Pros: Great taste, Good Price, Quick Delivery Cons: RUDE ARROGANT IMMIGRANTS! more

Dont waste your time.. 2/20/2009

This place is horrible. The service is just as bad or maybe even worst than their pizza.Taste like GARBAGE!.. I dont expect everyone to be friendly but if I'm standing there for 5 mins and there no one else around, I probably want to order something, I can say something but I shouldn't have to.. Cons: everything. Pizza tastes like cardboard more

Disappointing 12/26/2008

Do not get the specialty pizzas. The ingredients were not fresh. The pizza did not taste good. Pros: big pies; quick delivery Cons: bad pizza more

Best Pizza in the CITY. 11/12/2008

This is by far the best pizza I've had in Philadelphia. The crust is toasted just right, and it's thin, but not so thin that you can't enjoy it. The sauce is perfect...sort of sweet, but not too sweet, and always the perfect amount. Even better, the pizza always arrives at my front door like it JUST CAME OUT OF THE OVEN. Never soggy, always so steaming hot it could burn your mouth if you're not careful. Not only are their traditional pizzas amazing, their White Neopolitan pizzas are FANTASTIC. The White Neopolitan Broccoli pizza is definitely an all time favorite. Delivery service is always right on time, unless it's a holiday or the Super Bowl... Pros: Awesome Pizza Cons: Sometimes the guy answering the phone rushes you, but that's just because he's got 1030 people on the other line. more

love it. 9/16/2008

tasty, fast, cheap and they deliver. can't really beat that. also their portions are large so there are usually left overs which is always good. more

Lazaro's customers rep to the death 4/7/2008

If you don't like Lazaro's, don't play the blame game. It's your fault. If they hung up on you, it's because you were wasting their time with your stupidity. If you didn't like the sauce, then you need to wake up and realize that you don't like pizza. Because it's pizza sauce. If you got a weak hoagie, it's because it's not a deli. You don't go to the hospital to get your car fixed. Lazaro's is rock solid, they're quick, economic, and consistent. You get the same pizza any day you go in there. The crust is thin, but not thin enough to be classified as ""thin-crust"", and is toasted to perfection. Too much cheese? You're fraudulent, as you can see the sauce through the cheese. There's enough sauce to provide flavor, but not too much as to prevent adhesion of the cheese and toppings. If things slide off, then you're a dope, a clumsy pizza eater. It was too much for you to handle, it's ok. Pros: great value for gargantuan food, fresh pizza daily, good people Cons: nope more

Medium wings were a bit weak 12/30/2007

Good pizza, great stromboli, but the wings (the 'medium' flavor) were sweet and tasted a bit too much like General Tso chicken (the Chinese dish). more

Best Pizza Shop in Center City 12/5/2007

This is the only review you need to read: Lazaro's is the best pizza shop in Center City. We're talking ""pizza shop"" here, people. You can get an awesome octopus pizza at Osteria: that's not what we're comparing. This is the best place to go when you want to ""grab a slice"" because you're in the mood and you want it to taste like the pizzas you grew up loving. This is the type of place where a ""parm"" sandwich tastes and looks like a chicken parm should. The staff is rude 'cause that's how the staff at a pizza shop is supposed to be. I'd never trust a slice served with a smile: what are they trying to hide? Agreed from a previous review: if someone says they don't like the pie, they probably went to junior high in New Mexico; and if your from the Southwest, stay out of Lazaro's -- we don't feel like wasting our time flashing you fake smiles and hearing your complaints. The truth. Pros: its a hole in the wall Philly pizza shop Cons: its a hole in the wall Philly pizza shop and you are weak more

Rudest Service Around for OK Pizza 11/22/2007

Customer service and good will is just as important as quality. When Lazaros told me they didnt recognize my delivery address (23rd and Bainbridge), they hung up the phone. I was treated so rudely when I tried to place an order with them that I will never set foot inside that place ever again. Bear in mind, the person I was speaking with barely spoke English. I suggest they hire someone with manners who can communicate effectively. more

Best Pizza Place of its kind 6/17/2007

Excellent pizza, great price. Everything about the pizza is good - crust, cheese, sauce, etc. Whether we order a pizza for pick up or delivery, or get pizza by the slice, we are always delighted. more

I just don't get the hype 4/15/2007

I hate to generalize but I really think Lazaros is most popular among people who didn't grow up on all the great pizzerias Philly has to offer. This place is a pretender to the throne, sure the pizza is huge and well priced and not flat out bad, so I guess that makes it easy to look past the fact that it's sub par when compared to its peers around the city. I've had their food three times, twice I had slices, once a whole pie. Each time the pizza was so thin and greasy the cheese was sliding right off. The dough and crust are dull and the sauce is too sweet and too heavily spiced- bad combo. I've certainly had worse pizza, I'm not trying to exaggerate here, but I just don't understand the hype of Lazaros when there are so many better pizzerias around the city. EDIT 8/9/2008: Please ignore DrFear's long, rambling, extremely defensive review. Dude has obviously never been in a decent pizzeria. They all get their sauce wholesale from the same place?? Yeah okay man that's why my Great Uncle Dominick won't even tell anyone outside of his wife and kids the recipe for his pizzeria's sauce. Also, getting your sauce wholesale doesn't mean you don't have a recipe you add to it. Pros: The pizza is big Cons: It's not good more

My favorite pizza shop 2/9/2007

This is my favorite local delivery pizza shop! If you want a big, sloppy, thin-crust slice of pizza this is the place. The sauce is a bit sweeter than other pizzas I've had, but it is really good and worth trying. Their cheesesteaks are also delicious - much larger than the other famous cheesesteak shops and just as yummy! Pros: great pizza Cons: not open at 3 am more

Need to Tweak The sugar content of their Sauce 1/23/2007

This is one of the better pizzerias in Center City Philadelphia, but the pizza sauce used has too high of a sugar content making it taste a little too sweet. As far as value for your dollar, however, you have that with this restaurant. If they could just tweak the sauce a little, the pizza would be near perfection. more

Good cracker, gooooood cracker... 11/27/2006

Hot women too. On Thursdays when they have the ""theme"" dancers, it is really worth the trip. I'll be back. more

Great Slice!! 11/13/2006

We were driving down South Street and saw this place so my husband pulled over and ran in to get a slice. It was a vegetarian slice and it was huge with a lot of different vegie's on it with thin but crispy dough which I love. The slice was only $2.50 but the size of 2 slice so well worth it. Pros: Quick service; Good vegetarian pizza Cons: Parking; can't eat in more

the best of philly...period!!!! 11/11/2006

i have read a couple of the negative reviews. i think that they are probably from the mid west or competitors. this is the best pizza in philly...and probably further. if your idea of pizza comes from california, or you like the modern ""gourmet"" style...this isn't for you. but, for traditional ""city"" pizza, you will love this one. never mind the ""huge"" slices or the $2 slice. it goes beyond that. taste the buttery flavor, sauce, and generous cheese. order delivery or take out unless you are by yourself. the place is very small. Pros: great pizza Cons: seating more
