So I really love going to Layla. I always have a great time however, I wasn't aware that the place was run by a bunch of arrogant , over-confident bitches. Saturday night my frien...

wonderful place 1/15/2007

I came across these reviews while looking for the phone number to make reservations, and I have to say, I couldn't disagree more with the two previous reviews. I have been going to Layla Rul since I relocated to Nashville last spring. As far as I can tell, it's in a class to itself. The staff is very curteous and professional, more so to the other places i frequent, and the clientel is beautiful and chic. I commend Layla Rul for raising the bar for Nashville nightlife. I assume the previous two reviewers were denied for some reason, and now have a chip on their shoulder. (I don't think the timing on their reviews is coincidence, look at the dates!) I'm just glad my friends and I can be there for the party.\r \r \r \r \r Pros: ambience, great crowd, good service Cons: a little pricey, sometimes too crowded more

More Ultra Avoid than Ultra Lounge 1/13/2007

First, a disclaimer: This review does not reflect the dining service, only the club. That said, the word pretentious is a perfect description of Layl'a. From the front door security, to the waitstaff, to the clientel. The place is designed to be an ""ultra lounge"", but they should have stopped at ""lounge"". It's overdesigned and just tries too hard with the subdued lighting, flat panel displays, and mod furniture. Looking beyond the decor, the drinks are too expensive. A $10 martini? Expensive, but acceptable. However, a $5 water? Give me a break. I've lived in big cities, I've worked in big cities, and I've played in big cities. While Layl'a attempts to ooze chic all it does is ooze. Personally, I will not return. It seems appropriate for the rich and famous, or want-to-be rich and famous, but the ambiance is just simply atrocious. Pros: Friendly Barstaff Cons: Pretentious, Ambience, Overpriced more

PRETENTIOUS WITHOUT MERIT 1/12/2007

I have to agree with the review posted with the banner ?Not that great? posted by rstaureview on 07/23/2006.\r \r He is right the security people are rude, obnoxious, unprofessional and with a real power trip issue. The name of the bold head guy is Eddie and the other one is Jared. To the owner: there are hardly any places in Nashville with a big city vibe. For that reason, yes, people may think this is the happening place. But if those two people keep turning your customers away, and another place opens, rest assure your place is going down hill. I agreed that you should fire those two jerks.\r \r I am an attractive, educated, trendy, mature woman, 5?2?, 120 pounds, not a scary person for those two bullies, but Jared even made fun of my accent. I called Deanna Bruton to complaint, the night manager. She told me she was to busy and ignored me. If you have had a bad experience call the number is 299-6952\r \r Maybe if other people call they will pay attention.\r Pros: ONLY PLACE IN NASHVILLE WITH A BIG CITY VIBE WHERE YOU CAN DANCE Cons: PRETENTIOUS, PRETENTIOUS, PRETENTIOUS, PRETENTIOUS more

The atmosphere makes up for the expensive drinks 11/11/2006

My wife and I visited Layla for the first time on a Thursday evening. We got in about 9PM (WAY early) and stayed til about 1AM. She's 23 and I'm 24, and we fit right in with the crowd throughout the night. Atmosphere was incredible - flat screens everywhere showing cool scapes, music that set the pace for the people, and a very nice staff. Drinks were expensive ($10 for a Martini, $7 for a Maker's & Coke), but as long as you know this going in, it's worth the trade. As others have noted, the party really kicks into gear around 10:30-11 and some of the most beautiful people in the Nashville area get on the dance floor and just start rockin'. If you want a seat, get there early (10ish would be about right...) and ask for a table. We'll be back! Pros: Atmosphere, Great staff, People Cons: Expensive drinks more

Party time 10/31/2006

I don't know about the food but after 11 pm the party gets started. The live dj, open bar, classy/trendy atmosphere and beautiful people dancing are major highlights. Service was not all great and the midori sour was not mixed properly but all in all I enjoyed my evening at Layl'a Rul. Pros: Live dj, dancing Cons: Midori sour, service more

Good crowd, great food, good music, good service. 8/17/2006

Love, love, love, love, love Layl'a. One of the nicest looking places in this city, and the service and food is amongst the best in Nashville as well. The menu is some small plates with salad and pizza, and we ordered at our leisure and it came out as we were ready. Our server Amanda was fantastic, friendly, and fast. It gets crazy-busy late at night, but I noticed on my way out that they have a security guard and a very professional (and stunning) blonde woman filtering out douche bags that belong on Demonbreum street! Perfect night spot. I recommend it, if you're lucky enough to get in. Pros: Service, food, selectivity of clientele. Cons: They played a shakira song. more

never had a bad time 7/31/2006

In the past few months I have become a regular at Layla on the weekends, and I am surprised to read some of the reviews here. While the menu has changed a lot (our server explained it as a lighter, summer fare) it is still very fresh and flavorful. You can't beat the deal with the Layla Experience, 3 apps for $19. The music is loud and energetic and the ambience is lively. We usually have the same server every weekend and she is always pleasant and surprisingly patient with my friends and I no matter how drunk we get. The vip room is a blast, if you can get a table, and there is always something to see. Oh, and they have a 2 for 1 on drinks until 11! Pros: drink specials, service, balsamic beef skewers more

Not that great 7/22/2006

This place was ok but I would not recommend to anyone that I know. Tried to overcharge us which as I can see everyone seems to have this problem. I had the same issue with as others with the shaved head manager what a rude unprofessional person. I would have much rather went to boundary. I think they should fire that manager with the buzzed shaved head kind of short guy. If you like rude people then this is the place to go! Pros: happy Hour ok drinks Cons: Everything was bad except for the happy hour more

Beautiful spot for special ocassions 4/25/2006

This place is gorgeous! The interior of the restaurant is just beautiful, both upstairs and down. We went just after opening, and we shared the dining room with one other couple. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. I would like to mention that the 5-course meal mentioned in others' reviews is no longer offered. Our server didn't seem to be very on the ball, so to speak. Aside from not telling us what kind of cheeses there were on the cheese plate we ordered, he mixed up mine and my boyfriend's main dishes, confusing lamb and pork. If this place was not as expensive, it would be a regular spot for us -- as it is, we will probably only visit on special ocassions. Pros: excellent food, ambience, not crowded Cons: price, service more

what a beautiful place! 3/24/2006

this is great place for a cool bar scene, what great music! and such a cool enviroment. although kinda pricey, the drinks were good, our server was awesome, i had a great time:) havent eaten there yet, but would like to soon! Pros: moroccan!, music, setting Cons: price, no dance floor more

Just Average 2/17/2006

The food was over priced, just like most of Nashville's ecletic restaurants. The service was not so great. The waiter first messed up the appetizer. The appetizer? That's the easiest part! Two people ordered the 5 course meal on one table. Another couple ordered the meal at a different table. Things were running smoothly during the course of the meal. When it came to the dessert we all thought that each meal would have their own dessert tray. Instead, the waiter brought one tray. He blamed the chef for combining the tray because that was he told to tell us. Each meal costs around $50. Were they suppose to share even though the couples sat at different tables? It was the waiter's fault because he didn't tell the chef the orders were totally separate. Overall, this place is better as a bar than a restaurant. more

Funky, Cool, Very Interesting Food 1/29/2006

This place is definitely better than the previous tenant - CHU. Not only is the food and service far superior, but also the decor and ambiance are better. We had an early dinner - 6:00 and it was not busy. Definitely a late night place. The food and flavors are probably some of the best in town. However, having lived in NYC and LA, I still find Nashville's top restaurants too pricy for what they are. Our server was great, very knowledgeable about both food and wine, a first for Nashville. If I would have any criticism it would be the bar not very inviting and being so slow, it should not have taken so long to get a drink at the bar and the seating which can be uncomfortable, especially on a business dinner. Other than that, we will be back. Pros: Food, Decor/Ambiance, Service Cons: Price, Bar, Bartender more

Better with 2 people than a group 1/28/2006

You will not get your money's worth if you go with more than 2. Especially if you order the 5 course meal. My husband and I went with another couple and ordered 1 five course meal for each couple. We complained because the couple beside us was served the same amount of food than us and there were 2 of them. The waiter tried to justify this but kept digging himself in to a hole. It was very clear that we were served less food but were told twice from the waiter that we were ""nickel and dimeing"". Anyway the food was great. The week before I had gone with a friend of mine and received the same amount of food for the 2 of us that we received for the 4 of us. They really need to get this together before I will return and bring friends. Pros: view, relaxing, food Cons: waiter rude, food portions, pricey more

Wonderful, different dining experience 12/11/2005

I ate here last weekend with a group of friends and we all enjoyed ourselves. The 5 course tasting menu is the way to go and we all picked different entrees. The waiter was attentive and brought us up to speed to some Moroccan traditions. more

I liked this place 12/1/2005

I went on a Friday night with friend and had a great time. I had the shrimp cocktail and tried some of my friend's crab cake and loved both of them. The rest of the menu is diffently not American (hence why it is a Moroccan restaurant). Most of the food did appeal to me although I was not that hungry at the time. I look forward to trying other things on the menu. We stayed late into the night and enjoyed both the service and the belly dancing performers (although when it gets really busy they stop so everyone else can dance the night away). The drinks from the bar were nicely mixed and the varity of options were refreashing. I enjoyed my experience there and look forward to going again. By the way I sat in one of the couch areas and it was very comfortable. Pros: great ambience, belly dancers, great food Cons: parking of course more

Would not recommend 11/4/2005

Had read the review and looked forward to going. Very uncomfortable seating. The same scenes play over and over on the screens and become annoying. The food-the assorted cheese plate was ok-I did like the homemade strawberry jam and the homemade pickle. There needs to be more options on the menu. Other restaurants have the same number of entrees to choose from and I have a hard time choosing. The night I was here they only had 1 thing on the menu I would eat- a steak. The sauce on the steak was good, but the steak was filled with gristle. My husband's wasn't. I complained to the waitress and was told it was a strip steak as if that were an explanation. They need to spend less time telling themselves how wonderful they are and work on convincing the rest of us or this place will soon close too. Cons: uncomfortable seating more
