They don't want your business unless you look elite 5/22/2012

If you are visiting and staying at one of the hotels near this store and decide to shop within walking distance, don't bother going into this store unless your appearance is exceptional. I went there today because drug stores usually have things to blow money on. I was bored and decided some candles would be nice to have in my hotel room. I wasn't in the store 2 minutes when the pharmacy person asked if she could help me; at first I thought good customer service and I replied no thank you. As I turned around the lady from the front was behind me and obviously heard me tell the other lady no thank you, but she asked ""can I help you find something?"" in what was a direct condescending tone. I immediately thought to myself, what kind of store am I in? I replied to her ""well, I am looking for some candles"" although I was looking at whatever else to possible buy. She said ""we don't sell candles here!"" The problem is, I remembered seeing an entire display up front to the right full of votive size candles. I didn't look at them first because I was hoping to find bigger jar candles, but would have settled for the votives had I not found the others. When she said that, I knew she was just being rude and didn 't want me spending my money in there. I walked to the front and said ""Oh, I guess these aren't candles then?"" She said well, those are just.... well.... [she picked one up] this is just cinnamon scent, you know fall scents."" I was still trying to process what was happening, as someone with masters level psychology I tend to naturally want to analyze things. She then said ""you can go to hastings they have things there you might be interested in."" After I walked out, I thought to myself, wow I didn't realize I was in some elitist area where going into some small-time drug store to blow money meant I better cover my armband tattoo and religious symbol tatt on back of my neck. I mean what else could it be? I was dressed appropriately which is usually the only stipualtion stores have (shirt, shoes, etc.). I did go back into the store and told the lady that I was sorry, I didn't realize (as I am not familiar with area) her store was for elite only and apparantly based upon my appearance she didn't even want me spending money in her store seeing that she openly lied to my face about having the merchandise I wanted to buy. By the way, not that it should matter at all, but just to prove how ridiculous this place was, my appearance was good. I feel sorry for someone who just gets off working a hard day in the elements and God forbid had to walk in there not cleaned up or dressed up, and tattoos showing. Small minds don't deserve to know what kindness and goodness is beyond the surface which they judge one by. Don't tolerate rude people, spend your money somewhere else. more
