Lavang's is the place to go ! 2/25/2011

My husband and I have become regulars hear after trying many Pho Restaurants between Sherwood to Portland, And this place by far has the best Pho ever ! And we just love the owner, He has been great to us from the fist time we came in, And he always takes the time to talk to us and our kids as well, We have been there many times to see him in all kinds of situations , and we have found him to really care about his customers orders, He does not like when kitchen staff makes customers wait to long for there food, and he also likes peoples orders put in as they come in, That way it is who comes in first gets there order in first... Very nice I think since I have had to sit many times and watch other people get taken care of when they came in after I did. And did I mention that they have Salad Rolls that Rock the House... The owner makes them fresh as you order them,,,,,, So if you want some great food and to be around a owner who knows how to keep it real Lavang's is your place..... more

the best Vietnamese food - small 2/27/2010

Listen - if you want Vietnamese food without the hassel in Lake Oswego this is it, fresh and full of flavor. If you want service and someone to kiss your butt, go to a corporate chain. They have amazing Pho, the broth is just perfect. We also love the pork noodle bowl. Yea the owner is blunt and will say it like it is, who cares - as long as he's serving me some authentic Vietnamese food at a good price why complain. And to the person who thinks the owner was infatuated with your 5 year old daughter, you are sick. His wife is in the back cooking, and chances are he probably wasn't paying attention to you because of your poor attitude and snobbish standards. Pros: best fresh Vietnamese in Lake O Cons: location is hidden more

Good food, but be patient and speak clearly 2/3/2010

I work in Lake Oswego and typically go to Lavang about 2-3 times a month with co-workers. Everytime I go the service is pretty bad, but the Pho is sooo good. You must be patient, just order your food, speak clearly then wait until it arrives, and for Gods sake don't complain, otherwise ""No soup for you!!!"". Nobody gets special treatment at Lavang. If you go in with the expectation that you'll be getting treated in warm friendly manner I guarantee you'll be disappointed; if not shown the door. Enjoy the food and just laugh at how bad the service is, for me it starting to be part of the allure too... Pros: Excellent Pho Cons: ""Soup Nazi"" like service more

WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER - pyscho server/owner 12/17/2009

We found this restaurant with our GPS. It looked OK from the outside and when we got inside we were excited. The waiter whom we later found out was the owner led us to our table. He was quite talkative to our 5 year old daughter but we thought he was just being friendly. Things went downhill from here. After waiting about 10 minutes he finally came over to take our order. First he said ""you want some appetizers"" and I said ""no."" No big deal. I asked for some drinks and then he said ""you going to eat Pho?"". I said yes but when I ordered the first item, which wasn't pho, he looked very upset. I explained to him that I wanted Pho for me and my daughter but my wife wanted something else. At first I thought his reaction was a joke but the guy was dead serious. At this point we realized we may not come again. After 5 minutes he brought some Pho out. My daughter's order was wrong but what was more wrong was that he kept talking to her and ignoring me and my wife.... it was getting creepy. I asked again for our drinks and he mumbled something while he walked away apparently ignoring us. 5 minutes later there were no drinks, not even water. A new cusomter came in who new the guy by name... She had drinks within 1 minute. While he was yacking away with his preferred customer my wife went and talked to the other employee and asked her for drinks. She gave her some water and my wife had to carry it back herself. At this point we were not coming back again and I concluded that the guy was either dumb, lazy, ignorant or all of the above. I was wrong since I found out he is just crazy. So after we picked up our own water he brought over a bowl. He said ""you wanted a bowl right?"". We said ""no"" and that it was water we wanted. He had an attitude now and we were ready to leave. I said let's eat real quick and get out... no way were we leaving a tip... Things didn't go smoothly though. He was giving us a nasty look and after a few minutes he came over and said ""what you upset about the water?"" My wife said ""yes about the water and upset about the service."" He flipped out now and started yelling at us. He grabbed the bowls of food we had while we were eating and told us to get out. I was just dumbfounded now. I said ""let's go."" One the way out my wife talk to the other employee and asked to speak to the manger. She said he was the owner. He starting yelling quite a bit now and we got out pretty fast. While in the car I saw the guy throwing stuff around the restaurant at our table completely ignoring the other diners who were all staring at him...... Long story short, STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT unless you like psychotic service from people short of a few marbles. The only person he was nice to was our daughter but that was a creepy sort of nice. This guy clearly had mental issues. This was the worst service I had seen in my whole life. I've seen some pretty bad service but I've never felt so compelled to go online and write a review (my first). Maybe you don't believe me or think I was a high maintenance customer but if you look around you'll see other reviews regarding the atrocious service from this restaurant from this guy.... Pros: If they closed that would be a pro. Cons: Pyschotic/Rude/Outlandish Owner/Service more

Never coming back again!!!!! 12/9/2009

I came with my co workers to celebrate his birthday at this restaurant, and we swear we never come back here again. First of all, i don't know he is the waiter or the owner but he is extremely rude to us. We ordered 2 orders of spring rolls, so we must have 2 plates and 2 bowls of sauces, but the waiter only brought out 1 plate of 4 spring rolls and 1 bowl of sauce while we have 8 people. Second, when we need some napkins, he came out and throw it on the table. Third, my friend ordered a pho, and it was cold, so she asked to warm it up. The waiter shouted and grunted at her , and he refused to do it. We left the restaurant feeling not very happy and we had to pay 15 % on the bill on the very bad service. Pros: nothing good Cons: extremely bad service more

The Pho will warm your bones on a winter night 11/12/2009

The Pho, spring rolls, it is all good - its a neighborhood restaurant not a yuppie spot so don't expect 3 waiters to serve you - get up off your butt and get the water if you see Chris is swamped - try saying hello to Luci, the other cook and Martin the kitchen helper. If your plastic, you won't like it. Pros: Best spring rolls in town - the shrimp is yummie Cons: Food is too good, hard to get a table on Friday night more

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT 11/4/2009

We have eaten at Lavang at least 10 times since we discovered it several months ago. Everything we have had tastes fresh, and the flavors in the food are mouth tingling. The portions are big enough for my wife and I to share sometimes. Must try are the salad rolls, they are the best we have tried in Portland. This is the best restaurant value in town. It is a hidden treasure in Lake Oswego that is easy to drive by and not see. It is worth seeking out! Pros: FANTASTIC FRESH FOOD, FRIENDLY SERVICE Cons: if you don't like spicy, TELL THEM UP FRONT more

oh, yummy! 8/10/2009

Great food, Great service 12/26/2008

first off, I have no idea what you guys mean when you say that the current owner is rude. To us anyway, he's always been really nice, and a generally good guy. We usually come right around closing time, but he serves us anyway. We ate there today (we usually go every month or two), and we ordered the salad roll, and he left, and then he came back with the salad rolls. And in reference to the person who said that he touched the salad rolls with his bare hands, well, guess what people use in the kitchen in other restaurants. His hands were clean. Also, he remembers you, and he wasn't terribly thrilled, either. Pros: service, food, smell, speed, just about everything else Cons: it could be a little bigger, they could put the lightswitch inside the bathroom, the chicken pho could have a more flavor more

Just like mom used to make 11/6/2008

Growing up in a Thai household Pho and Thai meatball soup were favorites of mine. Since leaving home I dont think I have had a better bowl then at Lavang. Tonight was my first experience there. I did order my food to go so I didn't get full service, but what I did recieve was a very friendly welcome. The Pho is rediculously good, altho I have had way better fresh rolls....but I guess you cant have everything. If you live close and you are looking for a warm bowl of deliciousness, this is it....I know I will definitely be a regular. Pros: Great price, Delicious Food Cons: ??? more

Great Healthy Food! 9/6/2008

My family eats at the restaurant at least once a week. The Pho is fantastic, a favorite, during those cold and rainy months. This summer we have been trying different things and they are all great. Pros: great food, prompt service, prices more

It's all about the PHO 7/13/2008

This place is excellent. I eat there at least once a week and as of yet I haven't had anything less than a great meal. The Pho is ridiculous and has one of the best broths I've found. The owner is a bit rough around the edges but once you've been there a few times he's a bit easier to take. If you are looking to have a staff dote on you and kiss your butt I recommend going somewhere else, but if you want some good food at a reasonable price check it out. Pros: PHO, Pad thai, salad rolls more

The Pho King Master of Bad Service 6/10/2008

I don't go here anymore. I used to go a few times a month with some friends I work with. The pho is usually pretty good and the prices reasonable, but the owner/operator is ridiculously rude. He just grunts at the customers. I eventually found a way to see it as endearing because I loved having a pho fix so close to my work, but last time I was there I asked for a small to-go container so I could take the remainder of my broth and noodles home for my baby daughter (who also loves the pho). He said he'd have to charge me. I laughed. Then I realized he was serious. Apparently, this joker would rather lose my $25 a month than give me an $.06 container. Good math, guy. Pros: prices, food Cons: service, Service, SERVICE! more

The most outrageously bad service I have ever received in any restaurant, anywhere. 3/28/2008

I can't even comment on the food because we left before eating due to the outrageously bad service. From the moment we walked in, the service was indifferent to the point of rudeness--grunting and pointing to the tables was the way we were told to sit anywhere we liked, being spoken to as if we were stupid when we had to ask the waiter to repeat something (I don't care if you are from Viet Nam or Venus: if you mumble, people are not going to hear you or understand you. There's no need to get huffy about it)--but we just went with it because we had heard the food was good. more

Excellent Vietnamese Food in Lake Oswego 3/2/2008

Give this place a shot; you will be pleasantly surprised. If you live in the area, and want quality food, go for it. I really like the brisket Pho and the curry chicken. This place is a price performer and delicious too. Pros: Delicious and inexpensive! more

Not Recommended 2/12/2008

This used to be a great restaurant under the previous owner. It has steadily gone downhill. The quality of the ingredients has changed. Yesterday I bought salad rolls that I just threw away because the shrimp smelled bad. The counter person (owner?) was outrageously rude even more than before. more
