We arrived at 8 pm, and it bookended a perfect evening. Latte Da itself is a small converted house that sits across the street from the White Bear Lake marina, but there is patio seating, and best--if you're willing to wait--a cluster of tables set right on the shore under a magnificent old cottonwood tree. (The wait staff has to race across the road with food.) You should try to go later in the evening when the sailboats are whisking across the sun-spilled lake. As the stars emerge, the tanned boaters moor their boats and the wharf lights blink on, red, pink, green, yellow. Lights ring the cottonwood .
As you sip some of the most scruptious coffee in town--no milk necessary--and dine on a mediterranean pizza with a cracker crust so crunchy and flavorful you want to kick your heels, neighboring tables provide an entertaining distraction--classy granola couples in Teva sandals; platinum-club golfers with firm handshakes and gold watches, who confuse dining out with corporate networking; surgically-altered trophy wives; divorcees; suburban couples with 2.5 kids; working stiffs.
The piece de resistance is the food, provided by Chef Wolfgang (formerly of WH Frost), and the atmosphere is all the seasoning you need.
Bravo to Latte Da Bistro!
Pros: Food, wait staff, ambiance
