upon recommendation, i ordered the gnocchi. i've had MUCH better and the sauce left much to be desired--not quite worth the $14. However their tiramisu was right on. unfortunately, the waiters/waitresses did not seem too interested in catering to a group of college students. more

Best night of the year 8/29/2002

I joined 6 friends for Valentine's Day dinner at La Summa on their recommendation. The menu was impressive enough without that night's special, a surf and turf featuring filet mignon and jumbo shrimp, which I ended up ordering. To say that both elements of said special were of unheard of quality and size would be a gross understatement. The filet and shrimp were both huge, And the whole combination was vastly underpriced. The waiter's wine recommendation was outstanding, and our table was visited several times by different members of the staff... not in a stifling, intrusive manner, but in a kind, helpful one. Watching the staff having fun with eachother and with us through the whole night was icing on an already delicious cake. Thank you, La Summa. I've recommended you to everyone I know, and will continue to frequent your restaurant for as long as I live in Boston. more

Definitely going back! 6/3/2002

This place has it right-on: great food and gracious service. It's amazingly hard to get both great food and gracious service on a regular basis in Boston -- it's so frustrating for patrons and so needless. It's needless because it's the result of just plain bad hiring by lots of restaurants, and that's where family-owned places like La Summa got it going on. A family like the one here has standards for both, they really try to get it right, and their dignity won't let them under-deliver or take themselves too seriously. La Summa's people are just friendly and, with the excellent food, that made all the difference to me. Our server (she identified herself as 'the daughter-in-law') was an absolute delight to share a low-key evening with for her humor and graciousnessI want to be in this woman's fan club. I'm definitely going back to La Summa. more
