Editorial review from Citysearch 11/5/2012

Service started off ok but then it took them 30 minutes to bring us our bill. all four of our steaks were over cooked so they replaced them. the cream spinach is sub par but the lobster mac and cheese was good. They included the tip and stated this was the policy for parties of 5 or more. Really? Its insulting and we will not be back. Basically, Larkin's on the River is parading as a fine steakhouse by charging the typical higher prices but cannot provide the service and fare that is expected. more

Update - Good food, sub-par service 1/27/2010

Update: Since publishing this review, I have been contacted by the director of operations for the restaurant. He requested more details so that he could address this with the lunch staff. After supplying him with more information, he contacted me again and let me know that customer service is an important aspect of the total dining experience and was confident servers will strive to provide such at all times. Based on that, my co-workers and I are considering going back and giving it another try, for as I wrote earlier, the food is delicious. I upped the rating from 2 to 4 stars based on the response from management... Original review: Went here for lunch with a work group to celebrate birthdays. Walked in the door to a nearly empty restaurant, think there was 1 table with people, and were asked if we had reservations! There were six in our party... the food was delicious, nice presentation and very tasty, albeit a little small on proportions for the cost. But that would be okay if, and that's a big if, the service matched the level of the food. Sadly, that was not the case, our waiter was sullen, barely spoke and we had to ask for nearly everything. Maybe it's because we weren't all dressed up in suits and ties, I don't know, but they lost any future business from me and the rest of us who dined there. Hopefully not a lot of out of towners will dine here because I sure don't want them thinking this is typical service for one of the nicer restaurant's in Greenville. Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: service more

Great Restaurant - Great Staff - Great Food 7/17/2009

The bes filet mignon I've ever had - and not just once! - lobster is delcious, and my guest had a pork chop that was the most tender, juicy flavorful piece of meat I have ever had. Pros: Food, People, Setting Cons: Nothing... Worth the $$$ more

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE 6/6/2009

After making a reservation we waited 45 minutes awkwardly in the way. The manager seated 2 people that arrived after us and served them drinks, but didn't offer to us. Once seated it took 1 hour for dinner to arrive. They served me my lobster but LOST MY STEAK. The manager said he put my 9oz filet on my plate under my lobster. They never brought me my steak, they never could find it. They acted like the lobster ate my steak. I told the manager I was not happy and he did not seem to care. I also complained that we had a show to attend at the Peace Center at 9:00 and we made our reservation for 7:30 but did not get our food until 7 minutes until 9:00. The manager said ""Did you make us aware you had a show when you made the reservation?"" I told him no, I didn't see a reason I had to. Our bill for 2 was $271.00. I would have rather given $300 to the homeless and ate taco bell !!! Pros: Great server named Summer Cons: too many to name more

Best Steaks, Seafood & Spectacular setting! 6/7/2008

a great restaurant for lunch, dinner or just a drink! - Even the shrimp & grits served at the concerts they host on Thursday nights were delicious! Pros: Great, intimate setting - Beautiful Patio dining Cons: pricey but worth it! more

Not Renes anymore - Larkins on the River 10/7/2006

Great ambience and the wine selection is good. However the food was not so amazing. The aged steaks are pretty decent but the prime rib was a big chewy biscuit. Maybe it was the waitstaff on Friday nights but they seemed a little offish and was very attentive to everyones needs. The creme brulee was yummy but the baked brie w/ peaches was not very satisfying. Pros: Ambience wine selection Cons: Off the beaten path, service & prices high for unworthy food more
