They really CARE about animals. 12/28/2006

I had rescued a white rat and a ferret from an abandoned house and was looking for a vet to take a look at them as both were nearly starved to death. I called several vets, but those I called only took care of dogs and cats. When I called Kingdom, they told me to bring the animals on down. After a thorough examination, Dr. Renee indicated that they were both very underweight and would have likely died had I not broken in the front door to retrieve them. Dr. Renee knew they were rescues and she said that if I found I couldn't care for them or if I needed to find homes for either of the animals, she would be happy to help me. I took both the animals back home with me and gave them the medications Dr. Renee gave me to help them to regain some strength. I had never had a rat or ferret, but I fell in love with the ferret. The rat was another story. It was very sweet and gentle, but I couldn't warm up to a RAT!! I called Dr. Renee and told her that although the rat was very sweet, I just couldn't warm up to him. She said not to worry about it, just bring him in and she would find a home for him. When I took him into the office, the girl up front told me they had decided to just keep him there as a pet for the office. As far as I am concerned, the fact that they were probably unable to find a home for the rat was probably why they kept him, indicated that they truly care about all animals. These two animal were in a very bad situation when I rescued them; the little rat was trying to eat a piece of cellophane because he was so hungry. They were very sad. Dr. Renee was concerned and wanted to be certain he never had to suffer like that again. The obvious empathy she felt for this little rat let me know that all animals are precious to her, her sole interest isn't the money she gets from the office visits which seems to be the case with other vets I have had contact with in the past. If you have an animal in the Bryan/College Station area, you can be certain Dr. Renee and her staff will have a true interest in the health of your animals, regardless of what they happen to be, dog, cat, ferret, bird, or RAT!! more
