I have been going to L'Angolo off and on since it opened (I was a weekly regular for lunch, which, sadly, is no more). Over that time there have been a number of changes in the k...

SIMPLY THE BEST. 4/5/2004

I have tried every single italian restaurant in this city except Vetri which I hear is excellent but very expensive. To this day, I swear by my granma may god rest her soul in peace, I have not had italian food and experience that come even close to L'angolo! The dishes are to die for, every single one, and I ordered 3 main dishes, besides the appetizers! the ambiance transported me to my town in italy, with its coziness, friendly service, smiley faces, and waiters with broken english and italian accents! it really is simply the best. Pros: food, price, atmosphere more

Excellent Food, excellent prices! 5/22/2003

What a great find! L'Angolo is homey with a buzzing atmosphere and serves excellent food. I had THE best veal chop I've ever had there. Service is outstanding and the BYOB policy makes this one of Philly's best! Pros: Food, Reasonable prices, atmosphere more

Very romantic 12/8/2002

I had an excellent dining experience in this little restaurant. The chef and staff provided excellent service. I would recommend either a veal dish or the lobster ravioli dish. I have rated many restaurants as a food critic in the past, I would rate this restaurant as a top competitor. more

Neighborhood Secret 11/25/2002

We have enjoyed LAngolo numerous times, as a romantic diner niche`, as well as a small group (6 people) night out on the town. Each visit has proved relaxing and memorable; from the cozy dining room, pleasant service, to the outstanding food, this is a dining experience not to be missed. Escape the pretentious center city rat race, and find this neighborhood secret that will satisfy your spirit and appetite, without emptying your wallet. Keep in mind this is a BYO, so bring along a bottle of wine to complement the delicious meal. more

Italy in Philadelphia! 8/29/2002

This restaurant is everything-- ambience, delicious food, friendly hosts, the staff speaking in Italian, music, candlelight... We love it there! It is like stepping into Italy for the night. more

the old country 8/15/2002

I think i""ve been here before... oh yea it was in rome. I cant get over this place. great food good prices and good service. from some of the other bad reviews there must be a blind mexican that fills in as chef once in a while. I eat here often and have never been slightly dissapointed. Pros: calamari, byob, tiramisu Cons: south philly parking more

Epicurians Unite! 8/10/2002

Please make reservations for this amazing husband and wife BYOB. I went recently (it was actually their last night before their yearly trip back to Southern Italy) and was so impressed with how appealing everything about the restaurant was! I met the owners on the way out and their kindness was the icing on a perfect dining experience. I cannot wait until September to see them again! Best Penne Arrabiata and Veal Chop I've had outside of Rome! Cons: closed for august more

CHE BUONO! 8/8/2002

Words cannot express how absolutely marvelous this tiny restaurant is. I've been going to L'angolo since they first opened. Ever since, Kathy and Davide have made me feel like a family member coming home for dinner. The menu is uncomplicated and the vegetarian options are plentiful. Don't miss the all vegetable antipasto, the daily soups or the home made ravioli. And, of course, leave some room for one of Kathy's delectible desserts! Last time I was in I had a chocolate espresso torte with a raspberry glaze that truly melted in my mouth! Also, don't feel shy about engaging any staff member in conversation, eveyone is more than sweet. L'angolo is just another reason why I am so happy to call Philly home. Pros: charming dining area, friendly staff, yummy yummy yummy! more

Superb 8/1/2002

The seafood was very fresh. The pasta tasted homemade (probably was) and the sauces were perfect. It is an incredible find. If you're looking for an experience completely different from processed suburbia chain food, this place is for you. Pros: Great Service, Atmosphere Cons: Small more

young restauranteurs rejuvenate old codg 8/1/2002

It's the food, stupid. Where do I start. The restaurant is cozy, if not a bit snug. The service is very, very good. Have not seen a plate drop or food spilled on a diner. The appetizers, especially to calamari and the portobello mushroom dishes are exquisite. I love the fish here, particularly the talapia, which I had never heard of before the chef/owner made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He was right. It's light, tasty (not fishy), delicious and healthy. A four-bagger. Desserts are apparently all made by the female half of the young owners. The cappuccino cheesecake takes the cake. Outstanding and inexpensive. more

Holy Ravioli! 7/25/2002

L'Angolo is on it's way to being, if not already a South Philly standout. They maintain consistency in food and service. Last night, the spinach and ricotta stuffed ravs with sweet italian sausage were perfect. As always, the mixed fish grille is cooked to perfection. They always cook their calamari perfectly. No shoe leather here. more

Bring your passport! 6/16/2002

Bring your passport because it will help you believe you're in Italy! This adorable eatery offers the most delicious, homemade food, served by gracious, amicable servers. BYOB, but if you don't, others may share a glass with you! Excellent atmosphere for a romantic dinner - without the kitch or pressure of competitors. I'll be going back regularly! DO NOT BRING KIDS OR LOUD FRIENDS - I want this jewel to remain as it is! more
