Langes Old Fashion Meat Market

Yes Virginia there is a good local meat market! In Michigan City Indiana there is a great meat market called Langes that is great for the "Breads & Circus's". With a wide variety of smoked and fresh meats you will feel as if you've stepped back in time to a friendly, quality meat market that has a butcher that could easily do stand up comedy at the Improv! I have a professor friend from Germany that says Langes landjaeger sausage is better than what he gets in Deutchland! Pete, thanks for the great meat and the fun time at Langes! more

THIS IS JUST A GREAT PLACE. MR LANGE HAS CUT UP MY DEER FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS, AND LAST YEAR CUT UP AN ELK. WHAT WAS NEAT IS HE LET ME WATCH AND WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. I LOVE HIS SMOKED MEATS. HIS JERKYS AND SAUSAGES ARE JUST WONDERFUL. WE WERE RECENTLY IN THERE AND HE ACTUALLY FIXED US HOME MADE HOTDOGS OUT OF HIS SMOKEHOUSE. THE BEEF JERKY IS SO GOOD, ITS AMAZING. MR LANGE HAS A DEGREE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND WAS IN THE STEEL BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS MAKING ARTIFICIAL HIPS AND KNEES. HE JUST STARTED YEAR 16 IN HIS MARKET AND IS JUST A TREASURE IN THE AREA. WE ENJOY THE PLACE, AND MR LANGE, WHEN WE GO INTO LANGES. THE STEAKS, VEAL CHOPS, AND LAMB CHOPS ARE THE BEST AND DO NOT COMPARE TO THE SUPERMARKET MEAT. MR LANGE WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE AND CUTS THE MEAT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. THERE ARE NO PREPACKAGED STEAKS OR MEATS IN THIS STORE. more

This place is a scam. Buyer beware! Pete Lange will try to charm your socks off and will probably succeed. Once he fools you into thinking he's a swell guy, he swindles you out of your money passing on skimpy select pieces of meat and tells you they are prime. This is the truth. Anyone who knows anything about this place knows that he does this and that he isn't a real butcher. He wouldn't be able to butcher an animal if his life depended on it. He simply get's cryovaced bags of beef, trims off the fat and silver skin and then marks it up BIG TIME! With his location directly across from the outlet mall, he preys on spend happy shoppers who's wallets are already buring hot from across the street. The butcher parephenalia on the walls, the sawdust on the floors all make for a cozy charming place. DON'T fall for it. You're better off going to EVERGREEN MEATS in M.C. or Eastside Produce on highway 20 between 35 and 39. It's the EXACT same meat but they tell you the real grade (select or choice) and won't rape you on the price. If you really want to spoil yourself, go to Paulina meat market in Chicago for some REAL PRIME or go to Fox and Obels for some of the only dry aged prime you can find in the Midwest. more

Any time that we are in Michigan City we make time to visit Langes Meat Market. They have great cuts of meat. Our favorite item is their Beef Jerky. They will even let you sample it before buying! The store is small but if it were much bigger I think it would lose some of it's friendliness. The staff is friendly and they make you feel like you are important to them. I easily give this establishment 5 stars. Next time you are in that area make sure to stop by! more
