  • Lakeland Spine Center's mission is to relieve musculoskeletal pain and related disease utilizing the most modern non-surgical techniques available. To accomplish this, we are committed to bringing the most modern technology including Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, and the highest quality physicians to deal with all of our patients needs. We are convinced that a multi-disciplined approach to back pain and other conditions is the most effective. Therefore we offer a team approach to most conditions. Our clinic offers Chiropractic care, massage therapy by Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT), physical therapy modalities, exercise, and medical care delivered by board certified medical physicians. This multi faceted approach to pain relief and wellness is the cornerstone of quality care, and is our commitment to our patients. Back Pain Back or neck pain can begin from any number of causes: auto injuries causing a whiplash like injury, degenerative disc disease, sports injuries, disc herniation, and spinal stenosis from congenital problems are just a few of the possible etiologies. Since back pain is the second leading cause of doctors visits and hospitalizations (second only to pregnancy), it's a symptom that should not be taken lightly. The pain from neck or back injuries can alter our normal life activities, and if left unchecked, can lead to depression and disability. What can be affected? Back pain can be life altering. It can affect our recreation and even our intimacy. Sexual dysfunction, retirement from recreational sports, or even simple things like playing with young children, may all be the end result of unresolved back pain or neck pain symptoms. Is Surgery Needed? In the vast majority of cases for both neck pain and back pain, even when disc herniations are present, surgery is not needed. In fact, it has been estimated that over 90% of spinal pain will resolve with conservative care. We always caution our patients that some spinal conditions may be more serious and we always insist on a complete evaluation including neurological assessment to rule out possible surgical emergencies. What about Arm or Leg Pain? Many instances of arm or leg pain are in fact, spinal related. They can come from sciatica or brachial neuralgia. The spine is not the only cause of pain in the extremities. Pinched nerves in the arm or leg, tendonitis, bursitis, and simple sprain/strains, can also be causes. This would include conditions like: carpal tunnel syndrome, and tennis elbow in the arm, and trochanteric bursitis or patellar tendonitis in the leg or hip. A thorough examination by our well qualified doctors will determine the cause of your pain. Does the Spine Center Treat Headaches? Headaches affect a large percentage of our population, and a high percentage of headaches are caused by problems in the neck or cervical spine. Others are caused by problems in the TMJ or jaw joint. Headaches need a thorough exam and assessment but most are successfully treated by conservative care in a team approach. We often use a combination of Chiropractic care, message, physical therapy, and when necessary, medical interventions, including trigger point injections to control or rid our patients of their headaches.
