Lady Who Makes Dresses

at first I was really excited because she seemed to know exactly what I wanted in my wedding dress. And the price seemed decent. However after a couple weeks and no call back, well after the time she said she would be done, I finally called her to see if she was done. She said yes I was just waiting till the snow melted to call you. I said OK, and came right in the next day. When I tried it on and noticed a few things I wanted altered a different way, which she had told me during the first visit was OK as she did everything temporarily then after my confirmation secured it permanently, she seemed to ignore or rationalize away my concerns, when I asked her about it being temporary and her finalizing it after I approved the changes she said but there is nothing that needs to be changed right??? As if I was supposed to say yes. It made me feel really uncomfortable. Here is what was wrong; The hem on my dress was obviously uneven, one side be clearly higher than the other, when I mentioned this she said it was how the dress came..ya right... Later I took it home and looked underneath it and noticed that she had actually stitched it up to be higher on one side. So either she forgot or she was lying. I also was displeased the multiple pins left in my dress from where she was working, loose threads hanging out from where she worked, stitches left unfinished and her barley being able to find the fully enclosed zip up dress bag I brought the dress in with when I was about to leave her house. Overall I felt that what I wanted wasn't really honored and my concerns where blown over with excuses like, ""that not how the dress is originally supposed to go"". I'm thinking the whole time, ""that's the reason why I'm here, I want it altered!!!"" Even little adjustments I wanted to achieve the look I was going for were made to seem like a huge burden and she kept making excuses not to do them. Lastly the bustle she gave me didn't even work with my dress they covered up the flower details on the back of the dress and didn't even properly lift up my dress for dancing, it was still dragging on the floor!!! Barbara goes out of her way to make your dress just the way you want it. She is so great at what she does. I have never felt more welcomed or cared for by any ""vendor"" during my whole wedding planning process. She even had a veil specially made as a surprise! It was exactly what i was wanting but could not find anywhere! She is very afforodable and does superior work. She did all of my alterations and my husbands suit alterations for less than what my bustle alone would have cost anywhere else. I will be a customer for life! more

First of all, I search for this place on google and had very good reviews. Actually it was 22 people gave their feedback and over all it was 4.5/5 stars in ratings. I called them but no one answer and I left a message, and no one called me back!!!! In their voice message, no one said that, you should make an appointment first, also it doesn't say that, it was HOME!!!! Me and my girl friend went to this place, my girl friend asked me to go first and she will be waiting in the car, just in case of some thing unusual happen. (She might had sense some thing weird!!!) I went up there rang the door bell, their was old skinny white guy opened the door with mustache (all white hair) and I asked him very nicely if this is the Alteration place??? First he seems confused and I thought that it might be wrong place and then, I told him that, I found this address on google for alteration, then he told me that, I have to make an appointment. I told him that I called several hours earlier and no one called me back and he was persisting to make an appointment first. I was telling him very calmly and nicely that, in the voice message their was no indication to make an appointment first or you will be confronted by an ANGRY PERSON. He suddenly START SCREAMING YELLING AT ME AND ASKED ME TO (GET LOST)!!!! SLAMMED THE DOOR......... on my face. Is this the way you deal with your customer, who come at your door??? I believe not. But I was scared from him and ran away in my car. Me and my girl friend was so scared and upset. I don't know if he was going to take his GUN after he SLAMMED the DOOR on me!!!! I MUST NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY ONE.!!!!! SCARY AND RUDE. more

I can't say enough amazing things about Barb. She literally saved my wedding dress! I had purchased my dress at a major chain and they completely botched the bustle - the bustle points clearly showed on my train through puckered material and the bustle itself worked against the way the dress and just looked awful. And this was all one week before my wedding (I had a 2-month engagement). Panicking and near tears I searched for a reputable seamstress to see if the dress could be fixed - I got ahold of Barb and she told me to come in that same day. She quickly saw all the issues with the bustle and had it tacked up into a beautiful bustle within 30 seconds...the way the dress was created to have a bustle too! It was an asymmetrical silhouette that needed an asymmetrical bustle - and Barb knew that immediately. After she showed me what it should look like and calmed my fears about the dress she sent me on my way and told me she would have it done within a few days. When I came back in and tried it on - it was perfect. She had removed and steamed out the bustle points in the middle of my train and had redone the bustle completely - plus fixed a couple other minor issues. I once again felt like a beautiful bride in my dress!! Barb totally saved my wedding dress and I can't express enough my gratitude for her work! She's a true expert on dresses and alterations. Barbara has done all kinds of things for us. She has made dresses for my son's wedding (three flower girls), she has altered dance costumes for a granddaughter, she has altered formal dresses...you name it, she has done it. She is always up front about what will work, how much it will cost, and she ALWAYS does a beautiful job. Anyone, who wants a real seamstress with a very artistic yet realistic eye...run, don't walk to her door. She will get everything done for you and it will be done right! (: more

I bought a dress last year and decided to wear it again this year. I happened to try it on Monday evening to see how it looked with some new thigh-highs, and discovered it was now approximately a size too large. The event I needed it for was Friday night! I took the dress in Tuesday morning and was out in 15 minutes. It was ready Friday morning and it was perfect. Ms. Williams not only fixed the too-big problem, but also suggested shortening the dress (which was needed!) and tacked down a decorative ribbon that kept coming untied. When planning for a wedding one is always looking for some type of bargain. When I found that the Jr. Bridesmaids dresses that I wanted were $200 I called The Lady Who Makes Dresses to see if she could make them for me. The first question that she asked me is, how much were the dresses that you wanted. I replied that they were $200. She said, I can't do it any cheaper; fabric is high and labor is high. Then silence. If I were running a business that surely has to be suffering because the economy, I might try to actually listen to my customer to see what is that they actually needed. Barbara Williams is a miracle maker and overall wonderful woman. If you are seeking personal attention, a detail oriented seamstress and a woman with commercial experience, Barbara is it! I contacted her on a Sunday morning when most businesses are closed. Not only did she answer, but she said she would help! I am an officer in the US Army, and my now husband and I, decided to marry before I deployed to Iraq. The story goes as follows, my Mom flew out from Washington state with seven dresses in a box. I tried on a few and found one that I not only truly liked, but fit well. But like every bride, I did not think it was perfect. In my words it was ""too poofy."" This is where Barbara came in, over the phone she was easy to connect with and very easy going in person. She allowed my Mother and I to come to her business immediately following our telephone conversation. Barbara instantly went to work, making an already wonderful dress, perfect. She is truly talented. She also made a wrap and my veil. During the course of our conversation, I also found out that not only does she make dresses, alter dress, but she also makes costumes for large theatrical productions and for the Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders. I had ordered my two bridesmaids dress very early... too early to know that I was going to be 6 months pregnant by the time both weddings rolled around. Naturally, I needed someone who could make miracles happen. Barbara Williams was FANTASTIC. She was efficient, very nice to work with, and she did an amazing job on my dresses. Her rates were very reasonable and I was delighted with the overall experience. I'll recommend her to all my friends and family without hesitation. One note: her place is kind of hard to find esp. if you're driving in the evening, so make sure to have her phone number handy when getting there. more

The Lady who makes dresses is awesome. Her prices are very reasonable, and her work is excellent. I had my grandmother alter a bridesmaids dress I was wearing in a wedding. Because of her failing eyesight, she butchered the dress. Barbara fixed the dress for the wedding which was the following day. She was able to squeeze me in and get my dress fixed.
