Costumer service is very poor. I am.african American, I went to La Tapatia store, last week, and because the fact that I'm black they kept their eyes on me until I leave the store...no bueno. I don't like that...for God we all the same, we all have red blood. Don't matter your race, Color or religion. But I guess they don't understand that. I am not going back there . .smfh. more

Improve Customer Service 6/17/2011

I am from South America and have always thought Mexicans carry a chip on their shoulders. Mainly the men. It's that "macho" thing. ("no semos machos, pero semos muchos" ;). Many times, once you get the guys at the meat counter (my main reason to visit) to smile, they're really o.k. My gringo husband, who lived in my country for ten years, always chats them up and it's all good. Latinos don't relate to reticence well. Make eye contact, smile and you'll have a good experience. more

Good Stuff Ok Service 2/7/2011

I've been to La Tapatia several times they have awsome items that I cannot find in Waterloo, I don't think they are discriminating they just don't have good customer service skills, I'm not white I'm Mexican and look Mexican and I have been ignore too by some of the staff (bakery) but I call out their attetion but they items they have there I have not been able to find anywhere else ,like the bread and meat so if you are looking for those items you will find them there. more

discrimination 8/19/2010

Hubby and I are white. We went into this store to buy fresh bakery items. First in line, we were totally ignored. Everyone was waited on but us, when we were the only ones left to serve, the help walked away. Had I been mexican, I believe I would have been served. Will Never Ever go back!! They have lost all of my future business, and I do tell EVERYONE i know about this experience. They should post a sign on the front door stating that if you are of a different nationality, they will not serve you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Mexican Grocery Store 8/20/2005

La Tapatia is a Mexican grocery store, and they offer all sorts of authentic products, from spices and seasonings, to fresh produce, meat and dairy, to soda and candy. They also have a bakery with cakes and pastries. Great place if you are looking for Mexican ingredients and can't find them in American stores. Some Spanish is helpful but not really necessary. more
