""enoteca"": stock of vintage wines. That does not translate into ""hip wine bar with 1/2 carafes."" Before disparaging the critiquing credentials of others, perhaps you could make sure you know what you're talking about first. You're not the only person who's eaten in Italy. more

La Sosta Enoteca 1/26/2007

With all due respect iblondie7 must be referring to another restaurant. la Sosta is an amazing experience in every way. What do you call offering you a choice of water? That is an absurd critique. You could easily have said no water thank you or chosen one of the two. The restaurant is never empty and the portions are very normal and the quality of the food is extraordianry. My wife and I are well travelled and food snobs I must admit and La Sosta ranks up there with any. You complain the meats are sliced thin? They are supposed to be thin it's antipasto not sandwich meat. The cutting board is unique and Luca the owner personally to every table explains where each cheese and meat is from and what goes with what. Its served with truffle jam and flavored mustards and is extraordianry. The name makes no such implication, it is a restaurant! They have a very, very unique and good wine cellar specializing in hard to find Italian gems and your comment about half-glasses and carraffes shows a complete lack of understanding of fine dining! Who gets a half a glass of wine? La Sosta is packed all the time, especially on weekends with locals and folks who drive from afar to dine at this great restaurant. I think it's terribly unfair to give such a biased review and suspect you have alterior motives. My wife and I recommend La Sosta highly and we have dined there at least 20 times. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: None more

what a treat! 10/15/2006

This place is very authentic. It felt like we had been transported to a little romantic restaurant in Italy. True European-style service, waiter was very helpful in guiding our wine and meal choices. The food we had was excellent, both the pasta and meat dishes, just right portions which allow you to leave the restaurant feeling perfectly full and looking forward to your next visit. Pros: quaint, authentic Italian fair & ambience Cons: pricey more

Authentic, intimate, a true delight 9/15/2006

The first reviewer is way off. La Sosta is a gem in the South Bay which lacks for restaurants that are not "chain-owned." The atmosphere is charming, casual and inviting to sit and linger. The cutting board may be pricey but is fantastic and not something you will find elsewhere. The gnochhi with lobster is sublime, even if you are not a fan of lobster. Go for the meats..we couldn't find a bad one. This is just like that amazing meal you still remember from your last trip to Italy. Try the tiramisu and you will not be disappointed. Service was friendly and casual. You might have to call teh waiter over but that is European and I prefer that way over the stiff ones who try and get you out the door. more

Way Over Priced for the Quantity and Quality 8/30/2006

Yes we were promptly seated on a Wednesday night, as the restaurant was clearly empty. The waiter greeted us with, ""what kind of water would you like, flat or sparkling""? He didn't give us the choice. He was very good at explaining the menu items and specials, not very good at explaining the lack of size of the portions and mediocre quality. Rocca, where are you? Your ""affetati misti"" a huge plate of the best quality italian meats sliced generously for $18, compared to the ""cutting board"" , priced at $14/person, where the amount for ""two"", charged for two was more like for 1/2 a person-not to mention the meats were sliced as thin as possible. The name implies ""wine bar"" but there are no 1/2 glasses or 1/2 caraffes available and when I asked the, waiter said that I could order 2 glasses. Hardly the point. Since there were only about two glasses priced at $10 and under, not a real selection. The valpolicella I ordered was too warm as well. I can understand the venetian spaghetti being small, as that is typical for authentic italian, but nothing special and you had to get a magnifying glass out to find the 1/2 chopped anchovy filet, if that. Nobody ever really checked back; couldn't get the waiter's attention when we needed something; had to watch the waiter going outside to talk twice. Well I guess when your not busy after being open a year, you've got time to spare. Anyone who has been to Italy and eaten or has any savy about good quality food at the right price for what you're getting, won't be fooled by this. Not impressed. Pros: Easy to get a seat because restaurant is empty. Cons: Price/Portion/Quality-not equal, not a true wine bar, not warm service more

Fine Italian Dining 8/18/2005

High end italian dining with a personal touch. Delicious cheeses and immaculate entrees. The owner and waiters will take great care to guide your choices, including advice on their superb wine selections. Priced a little high, but worth the price. more

Terrible Experience 6/27/2004

The food at Amori (was called Amici) was terrible. We started with the antipasto misto. It was missing the one meat we wanted (bresaola). It was $10 for meat you can buy in the deli section of Vons. I had the gnocci which were not homemade and had a very bland tomato sauce for $17. My husband had linguine with seafood. The pasta was undercooked, too salty and the seafood looked like it was frozen. Lastly, we dared to try the espresso which was worse than instant coffee. This is NOT authentic Italian food. Pros: friendly waiter Cons: , price, $4 valet parking more
