They know their mediterrean 4/6/2007

It is the most authentic as close to grandma's. The hummos is so delcious and the dolmas are great. My fave dish is the leventine meat tarts in phyllo dough. I also love to have it with the lemon and rice soup. I like the prices and they have great wine and beverage selection. It's small and cozy place in the pacific heights area. Pros: food, ambience, menu, wine list, speciality wines Cons: Parking more

Love this place 9/23/2006

It is no surprise this place has been around forever. It is small, intimate and consistently good food. Excellent value. Inadvertantly I met the owner and he is super friendly. I will always tell people to come here. Pros: great food, great value more

Great food, Great value. 8/5/2006

I have started going to La Mediterranee back in college, in their Berkeley location. I just love this place. The Middle Eastern Plate is my favorite, with the pomegranate chicken. The food is great and the service is always good. The Fillmore location is small and comfortable, not the least bit pretentious. Try the desert with dates (can't recall the name), it is so good. Pros: Great Food, Great Value, Nice cozy atmosphere Cons: Not good for groups. more

You'll truly feel fulfilled... 7/23/2006

This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in San Francisco. I almost wish that it wasn't as great as it is, so I can begin to explore other restaurants in the area, as well. This is the original store with another one on Noe St. in San Francisco and another one in Berkeley. The original store is the best of them, because they serve MINT TEA (served hot or cold) with free refills. I liken the experience to British High Tea, because I love ordering the VEGETARIAN MIDDLE EASTERN PLATE, even though I'm not vegetarian. The variety of tasty little morsels is unbeatable. The service is also the best at this original location. The people there have always been sweet and personable. It's hard to find good service nowadays, so look no further...this restaurant's got it. Pros: Friendly, good servers. Delicious dishes that leave you feeling pleasantly full at very reasonable price. Cons: There is none. more

Love it! 7/2/2006

A heard of this restaurant through word of mouth. The food and spices are amazing. It is also reasonably priced for both the quality and amount of food you get. I feel as though I am eating more fresh and healthy than I do at most other places. The servers are busy, but I think they do a great job. The manager last time even treated our table to baclava. I would avoid this place (during busy times) if you don't like feeling cramped. It might be the most itty bitty restaurant I have been to, but it is worth it! more

Great middle-eastern food, Cozy GEM 6/17/2006

This place has been around for a long time, their service and staff's pleasant attitude along with generous portions of great food make this a fantastic place. We often meet friends there and our out of town guests are always impressed. Must try their special lamb dish, also go with house red wine, it is a bargain for a very yummy wine! Pros: price, quality of food, house wine Cons: small bathroom through kitchen, hard to have a party of more than 6 more

Mousaka Special 3/26/2006

Great little cozy spot. Service is warm, food is delicious. The Moroccan Tea is slightly sweet and delicious. I had the vegetarian mousaka and it was fluffy and tasty. My husband had the falafal - very nice and served with a unique potatoe salad. They had some nice instrumental music on. It is a romantic spot. more

Best Hummus 2/13/2006

Great food. The restaurant is a little crammed in the evening, but still delicious. The hummus is so light and fluffy, its amazing! more

lovely cosy place 2/9/2006

I visited La Mediteranee with a large group and even added more people than our original reservation had set but they had no problem accommadating us even in the small building. Our server was excellent, very helpful and attentive, the food was wonderful and we all had a great dinner. I found it to be a lovely restaurant with great food for a good value. Pros: service, food Cons: small more

One of the best places to eat anywhere 1/15/2006

Great food with a middle eastern flare. An absolute must when I visit San Francisco. I drag all my friends who then rave about the place too. Wonderful people. They were kind enough to mail a pair of prescription sun-glasses that I had left behind at dinner to my home back east. Thanks! Pros: Delicious food Cons: It can get crowded more

look elsewhere 2/10/2005

the food was ok at best, the service was extremely rude and slow and the tables are so small and close to one another, there is barely any privacy. i've eaten at several mediterrean restaurants and this one is definitely over-priced and sub-par. more

the hummos is to die for 10/19/2003

I disagree wholeheartedly with all the previous user reviews. I found the food to be excellent and the service was fast, efficient and friendly. The value is the true gem of this place. It has been around for over twenty years and is always consistent in the quality. The staff is always helpful, and cheerful and the atmosphere is very cozy. I met the owner on one occasion, a lovely Armenian man, and he has a wonderful charm that is always present at this establishment. I recommend this casual eatery for a great value and a comfortable experience. Pros: great food, reasonable prices, friendly service Cons: long waits at times, bad for large groups more

Unbelievable! 8/12/2003

It is hard to believe that some magazines have rated La Mediterranee the top Middle Eastern place in town. From my experience, the food was some of the worst I have ever paid good money for. I have eaten in Jordan, Israel, Greece, and other countries from the region, and this food was sub-par at best. The restaurant is cozy with a romantic and fun atmosphere, and the service was decent. Stay away from the house wine. In the words of Teddy K.G.B, ""This is not good for you Mike."" Pros: atmosphere, location, cute Cons: horrible food more

Could Be Better If... 6/21/2003

the service was better. I have been here many, many times. The waitresses have an attitude each and every time I have been there. I like the food a lot, but it is getting to the point where I don't want to go there because i have to put up with so much attitude. Pros: great food, nice ambience, nice price Cons: bad service, small/cramped more
