My family has been natives of the City of LaMarque for atleast the past 26years. Recently we had a family member riding a bike down the street to the corner store. He was pulled over by a LaMarque Police Officer for not having a tail light on the bike. The officer asked my family member for his I.D. and once the officer ran his name he seen that my family member had an out of county warrent. He then told my family member to turn around because he had a warrent. Once my family member turned around the officer began to get very aggressive towards him and was talking to him in a rude manner. My family member asked him not to be so aggressive because he was not resisting and the officer told him to shut up at kicked him in his lower torsol area. Well at this time my family member fell to the ground from the kick and once on the ground the officer started to rough him up. The officer was kicking and punching my family member while he was down. Once the officer felt like he had enough he then threw my family member inside the police car and once again began to kick and punch him. The officer realized he had a crowd observing and told us that my family member tried to take his gun that's why it got physical. Well my family member went to court for the out of county warrent and was sentenced to 30 years on a probaiton violation because of the added charges that LaMarque PD put on him which was Trying to take a weapon from a Police Officer and evading arrest. Here it is two years later and now the video take of the arrest has come back and it shows that the officer had no just cause to handle my family member like that and now the city is telling us that we cannot sue the them we have to sue the officer himself and to me that will still result in nothing. So in my opinion LaMarque police only try to harm citizens and put false charges on them as they see possible. Try actually telling the truth and protect the citizens of your town not beat and harrass them. Now my family member is doing time for a proven lie that LaMarque police department has put on him. Way to Protect and Serve.
