For a place that remains "family owned", you have to hand it to La Carreta Mexican Restaurant - they really serve great food at reasonable prices. I applaud any family owned business in this era of outsourcing, corporate chains, and "Made in China". La Carreta is truly a great place to sit down and enjoy an authentic style Mexican dinner for $6-15 a plate. The Margarita's are delicious, too! I can't rave enough about how delicious they are. The chips and salsa are crisp, warm, and salsa has just the right bite. They even serve a side of "hot cheese" if you ask for it - I think it's $3 and it's a bowl of hot creamy white cheese melted and ready for dipping. We always order that as soon as the chips arrive - it's an excellent starter and we order that to replace an appetizer. Between the chips 'n cheese and a meal, you won't leave wanting another drop of food. I do have some advice though - if you do want to leave feeling satisfied and not stuffed, order the cheese with your chips, share a dinner with your pal, and order a Mexican Fried Ice Cream for dessert. I'm sorry, but hands down, it's the best around. You won't want to leave there without one. As far as service goes, it's great. There's a slight wait on the weekends, up to an hour at times; I advise dining during the week or earlier on weekends to avoid the crowds. The music is loud and festive, so don't expect to have any meaningful conversations with your family because you won't really hear eachother (could be a good thing!). The atmosphere is simple, but authentic - you feel like you just stepped south of the border. No, not Massachusetts, silly. Mexico. The other third world country. (teasing). Anyway, enjoy La Carreta and support this family owned Mexican Cantina!
