Great place for business or pleasure... 3/24/2010

I have been there a couple times with clients and it was a very good place to conduct business because the servers are professional and not intrusive. Also, I took my wife there over the weekend and it was very romantic. This restaurant is becomming a habit. Pros: Excellant food, great service and delightful martinis. Cons: Parking can be difficult at night... more

new fantastic menu, same charming ambiance 6/16/2009

Last time I dined at L'opera was a few months ago and I thought it was superb. I came back just last week for a quick lunch and I found new, interesting items on the Summer Menu that I didn't expect. Lower prices, more varieties for Steak lovers (like the Bistecca al Gorgonzola, yummy and tasty) & three different Veal Scaloppine for the joy of palate. I even found special pre-set menus (Recession lunch & dinner) to cheer us up in this bad financial period..I'm always positively surprised when a high end restaurant like L'Opera bothers to make sure customers will find pleasure every time with its creative cuisine and even offers discounts (like the half off valet at lunch). I'll come back for my new favorite soup (the ceci with rock shrimp) and the exceptional desserts. Thanks L'opera. Pros: always tempted by meat entrees & desserts Cons: don't have any more

Bad experience with L'Opera at Long Beach 2/23/2009

This is my first review. I was compelled to write my own review because, by relying of other people glowing reviews I got myself into an expensive flop, instead of the special dinner I was planning for. Pros: Ambiance, Decor ,Service Cons: Food no good, Opera .. don't bother .. maybe Micellis more

Good Food, Bad Server 1/28/2009

My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. We loved the decor inside the restaurant and the opera singer. However, our waiter was terrible! He did not seem like he had a real interest in us and he tried to charge us for a bottle of water we never ordered. The wine list is great. For our appetizer, we had the calamari, which I would not recommend because it tasted very under-seasoned and it had ""bait"" in it basically as a filler instead of using more calamari. We had a salad with strawberries in it with roasted almonds which was great! For dinner, we choose the pasta selection where you choose three different types of pastas. All three we had were absolutely amazing! When it came down to it, we enjoyed the food, but our server ruined our experience. We noticed several people around us unhappy with their servers and time they waited for their food as well. I would still try it ONLY if I were in the area for the pasta and ambiance alone. Pros: Great pasta and ambiance in restaurant Cons: service.. waiter was terrible and food took forever to come out more

Awful except the waiter 10/9/2007

This was one of our favorites in the area. Fantastic setup and food was great too. Please note, it WAS great. We tried the place again since we were never disappointed before but now, from the reservationist to busboy to the manager to food to..........just awful. Our poor waiter was frantic. Pros: Ambience and valet parking Cons: everything else more

Nice service, but food is lacking in quality 6/23/2007

We went to this restaurant as part of a dinner and show package, so we got a prix fix menu. It started off nice with the pleasant decor, the service was going well, but unfortunately the food was average. I've certainly had better. They had a very large wine list, but surprising a short list of wine by the glass. The house chard and cab are ""okay"". My ravalio was somewhat cold and the pieces I was given looked like they were already torn into. My husband had the chicken, and though moist it was very salty. Major downfall was that I found a piece of wet tissue in my salad, and the server didn't even apologize or anything. I spoke with the mgr afterwards and he basically told me if I had told him sooner, we would have given me a free dessert...so not worth it. We overhead the neighboring table talk about the overcooked steak, so they were unsatisfied too. For a place that's aiming to be high end, it missed the mark completely. Will most likely not go there again. Pros: the bread was good, long wine list Cons: Salty food, watch out for anomolies in food more

WONDERFUL RESTAURANT WITH GREAT SERVICE 3/20/2007

I Love L'opera!!!!! Everthing about this restaurant is great. I have about 5 parties a year in their ""Wine Cellar"" room (which I love). Ashlee, the Banquet Mangager always takes great care of me and my staff. The food is consistantly good and I always leave with a smile on my face. L'opera is by far my favorite restaurant. Pros: Great Private Rooms, Great Food and Great Service more

Overrated Cheesecake Factory; needs a new hostess 8/25/2005

We had a reservation for 8:30, but got there earlier than expected. We asked if we could be seated earlier, but the hostess told us that because our reservation was for an hour later and we'd have to wait. We saw an empty table and asked if we could be seated there, and she told us that there were reservations before us that would get that table. So we waited at the bar for an hour, and the table we asked for remained empty the ENTIRE evening. Service at the table was pretty slow, though friendly. The food was good, but not good enough for me to return. Pros: None to speak of Cons: Terrible Hostess, Slow service more

User review by allie90608 2/17/2005

Took an over an hour to receive food and when I received it, the chicken was undercooked AND it tasted like pure salt. Thought it was just me so I let others at my table try it and they said the same. Server was ok. Not recommended for the price. Pros: ambience, valet parking Cons: undercooked food, too salty, expensive more

My BEST Valentine's Day! 2/17/2004

My husband and I got last minute dinner reservations for Valentine's Day...and I admit that the preset menu and the price could've been considered as shocking, but at $65 pp and a menu that couldn't be beat, it was well worth it. We sat in a corner window seat overlooking Pine Avenue and all the people walking the streets. The service was GREAT and our server couldn't have been more pleasant. We had a fabulous dining experience...and the food was WONDERFUL. I'd like to consider myself a pretty average person, and the food presentation was a little odd (you know, big plates with something strange in the middle that LOOKS like food, but you're not quite sure). Don't let the appearance fool you...everything tasted GREAT! We WILL be back...their everyday prices aren't bad either... Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT atmosphere more

Great Dinner 6/17/2002
