hamachibelly >>>> Coming from Los Angeles where sushi is remarkably good, I didn't really expect a small suburb in New Jersey to have such creative sushi or rolls.""""""""""""""""""""""""She/He does not only sound snotty but is also blind. Ridgewood has more restaurants in a 5 block radius then most places in LA. Kumo is really good. If your not satisfied there check another sushi restuarant. There is prob. like 10 in ridgewood total.\r more

Surprisingly outstanding... 9/5/2007

Coming from Los Angeles where sushi is remarkably good, I didn't really expect a small suburb in New Jersey to have such creative sushi or rolls.\r We got to the restaurant on a Wednesday night and it wasn't crowded at all. So immediately I probably subconsciously started judging. There were only two of us and we got seated at a four-top which I liked. The waitress was very sweet and friendly. She made some recommendations. Following her recommendation, we ordered the tuna dumplings as an ""appetizer."" We also ordered 2 other rolls off the menu as well as miso soup. Being that there weren't many other patrons that night and many available servers, we received super friendly, speedy service which is always a plus in my book. I was surprised how tasty and aesthetically pleasing the tuna dumplings were - an avocado mixture wrapped in a skin of tuna topping with fish eggs. Each dumpling had a different type of fish egg which was fun in itself! There was also beautiful sauces that were so nicely draped across the plate. That was the highlight dish of the night. The two other rolls were good and the miso soup was good, but plain. One other high point that is apparently more of a norm in the restaurants of this area is that you can bring your own wine without corkage fee which is another plus. We did and it just added to the meal. Overall, a really good experience. I would definintely come back. Pros: Food, service, value more
