There were more than 3,000 Kosciusko County men who fought in the war between the States from 1861 to 1865. Lieutenant Jerry Kuder is the most honored among them. Lt. Kuder was part of the 74th Indiana Regiment, when on September 1, 1864, in the Battle of Jonesboro (Georgia), Lt. Kuder won the Congressional Medal of Honor, the only soldier from Kosciusko County to do so in this conflict. Kuder Estates is named in his honor for his acts of bravery in helping to preserve our nation as one.
