Kovacs Affiliated Super Foods

I'm sorry to say it, but Kovacs is indeed more expensive than other grocery stores in St. Joseph, and is the only real grocery option in this part of town. Their meat department is alright, but the produce department could use some improvement (I wish they would offer local vegetables and fruits and more organically grown options!). In general they do not have the biggest selection and are not open as many hours as the bigger chain grocery stores are, but I suppose that is to be expected of a locally owned grocery store. I have never had problems with expired food from Kovacs, and it is generally clean, has a friendly staff, and has the only store in town that will bag your groceries and even carry them to your car for you. That is why when I need a quick trip to the store during the hours that Kovacs is open, I will often go down there for the convenience and service. If I want to do a "big shop" however, I will go to one of the stores that will save me more money (even if I have to carry the groceries out to my car on my own!). more

I do not agree with Stacey P. I like to buy food in Kovac's food store. It has everything that you need. And I never saw expired food there. They have the best polish sausage! And workers in the store very friendly & nice. The produce & meat is the cheapest in town. Kovac's has the best meat in town! Sally Shopper. more

Kovac's has the only grocer location in the south side of town. I think they are able to use this to their advantage and monopolize on it, because I find their prices to be higher. Also, it is important to look on the products to find the expiration date, because so often they are expired/about to expire. All in all, though, if you are needing to make a quick trip to the store and you live in the southend, it may very well be worth the convenience to spend a few extra bucks here! more
