Great Turkish food. Authentic! 1/23/2010

My husband is Turkish and our second date was here. So this place holds a special place in our hearts. Plus, we love Ayse, the owner. She is a great, strong woman and and makes super delicious authentic Turkish dishes. We love what she has done with the new place. Plus, the fish is great and so much more healthy! My husband loves the Turkish doner (gyro meat which is real lamb like in Turkey not mystery meat like in American pizza shops). Cupra is a really nice, light Turkish fish. One of my favorites there and so is the chicken shish kebob. But you have to save room for Ayse's desserts! Her baklava is hands down the best we've had...even from top baklava shops in Turkey. :) Turkish baklava is nice and light. Bellydancing and the Turkish band are nice to see there too. It's a nice clean, place and good food. Food takes a little longer to come out...but that's because it's real fresh food, not frozen and it takes time! Pros: Best baklava, lentil soup and so much more! more

Not Very Good 2/23/2009

I went here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. Our waitress literally said two words to us the whole night. She walked up to our table and just stood there instead of greeting us, it was very strange. The food was okay. Nothing great. The lamb was very tender which was great, but otherwise everything was very plain. Nothing seemed to have any flavor and it wasn't presented in an interesting way. It wasn't bad, but when I go out to eat I like it to be really delicious and interesting, something I don't feel like I could make for myself. I just did not feel that way here. The service was really slow too and there were only two other tables besides our's with people seated, so I did not understand why. It wasn't a terrible experience, but I won't go here again because it wasn't a good experience. I was really disappointed. Pros: The meat was well cooked. Cons: The decor, the staff, the food. more

Konak is Delicious! 6/23/2008

I have been enjoying middle eastern cuisine for many years now. I had my first meal at Konak this past weekend and was very impressed. the wine was smooth and the service exceptional. the appetizers were delicious - i had the best grape leaves i have ever eaten! My entree was poounded filet mingnon that was cooked to perfection. the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. I do not live in the philadelphia area anymore, but will be returning to Konak. the atmosphere, service and food all exceeded my expectations! more

what a waste 4/26/2008

The owner was so rude. Prices are so high.\r If I didn't know Turkish Food, I would think, Turkish Food is not a good food. \r But it is not. Only in Konak.\r Pros: bad food Cons: good ambience more

Delicious and entertaining 4/7/2008

I would highly recommend going on a night when there is live belly dancing. It makes the meal that much more interesting. The food was fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed everything with the exception of the dessert. There's a traditional Turkish custard which I had ordered. I had tried it elsewhere before and really liked it, but here I was disappointed. It gave off a bit of a burnt sugar taste. Other than that though, it was a good experience. Pros: Fun entertainment, great food, good ambience Cons: the Turkish custard tasted like burnt sugar more

Chicken Topkapi to die for! 4/24/2007

I love this restaurant. I loved in in Voorhees, NJ and followed it to Philadelphia. The food is delicious, the service is great and very friendly. It has free parking also. The best dish to get is the Chicken Topkapi. I could live off of it. It is one of my favorite dishes not only at Konak, but out of all the restaurants I've been to in my life. I highly recommend Konak. Pros: The food, quality, ambience, and service. Also free parking. Cons: The food can take a little long coming out sometimes, but well worth it! more

GREAT PLACE for any night of the week!! 12/20/2006

This is a GREAT restaurant! We went for the Happy Hour Special and you can't beat $2 beers/$3 martinis/$4 glasses of wine. The apps were also great, the Borek was great, not too heavy or greasy. The staff is super friendly and they sell great jewelry in the restaurant!. This would be a great place for a group happy hour or a date. \r \r PLUS: They also have a parking lot that you can park in for free after 5pm! Pros: Everything was great! You can't beat $2 authentic apps! more

Try it on Tuesdays 12/13/2006

Everything I've gotten here has been quite good. If you're not sure what to get, go on tuesdays because they have a bunch of different items from their main menu for $2 for small portions so you can order a bunch of stuff and see what you like. Even the beers are $2. I found several menu items which have become favorites that I wouldn't have ordered otherwise. more

Much better choices in the area 9/11/2006

I have lived in old city prior to Konak and was happy when they came, however the food has never been to the level of other local places and the prices are high. Service is often poor and the food has never been great. Specials are not so special especially with the prices. I do not mind paying for good food I actually enjoy it. This is not good food and the lack of people in the restaurant says to me that more people agree with my review than the others on the board. Yes they have unmonitored free parking, just hope you dont get double parked in. Lunch has gone down hill since they have opened. Anyone remember the salad bar? Please improve the place we could use a nice place in northern Old City. Pros: Quiet location in northern Old City, nice for local residents Cons: Food, Prices, Service more

Sweet 6/24/2006

Of the Turkish restaurants I have been to in America and in Europe, Konak's foods taste the best. I have had the best dolmas and falafels here. Pros: Falafels, Dolmas, Turkish music and decorations more

Add to Your 'Favorites' List 5/10/2006

This lovely restaurant has everything - good food, quietly elegant ambiance and first class service in a delightfully eccentric neighborhood. Menu offers a lovely treat for every taste and purse. I have tried lunch, Sunday Brunch and dinner - never a down side. The vegetarian cold platter (my favorite) is a delightful sampler if you are unable to choose one dish. Best hummus you will ever taste - never too much garlic - always perfect. Konak - perfect place to go when you can't decide where to dine - make it your favorite. I made it mine. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Service Cons: Wish I lived closer more

Tapas Tuesdays 4/6/2006

Went to dinner on a tuesday and everything was avaialbe in small portions (tapas) at $2 each. We sampled several dishes and most were very tasty especially the sheppard Sald and hummus. Worth a try and will be back again. Nice environment. Pros: good value, good food Cons: wine selection limiti more

Great place off the beaten track 3/11/2006

Konak is a nice lovely restaurant with great food and service. Great ambiance makes you feel like you are outside with windows and doors inside. Friendly promt service and all sorts of good food and huge portions for sharing. Pros: nice service, big portions, good food more

What a (great) surprise!! 9/5/2005

This is the first review I'm submitting to Citysearch because I liked that restaurant that much! My girlfriends and I chanced upon this during first friday last week. It is huge and has a nice ambience (more charming than flashy). The best part was the food - I considered it good value for money but that is based on my vegetarian experience. The servers were slow but nice (I actually preferred this because we didn't feel rushed). Also, as a nice perk, the restaurant serves as a merchant of authentic Turkish jewellery (chokers, bracelets, ethnic chandelier earrings) in vivid turquoise, green and amber. The prices are so reasonable ($10-25 per piece)!! I loved the whole experience! Pros: good food, decent prices, charming Cons: slow service more

mr 1/11/2005

it is a wonderful pleace to dine in any ocasion, and their free parkin is a big plus. Pros: kitchen, ambince, parking Cons: , ----------, ---------- more

Very good food! 12/16/2004

Slightly off the beaten path in the Old City, Konak is a charming restaurant with authentic dishes, pleasant atmosphere and a diverse menu. Although the service is somethimes lax, the menu more than makes up for it. I would recommend this place for larger parties and fans of middle-eastern cuisine. Pros: Friendly, Great food, Not a scene more

Delish 9/5/2004

Try the Raki, a traditional liquor of the Turkish. It definitely has a kick! The food was excellent and I will definitely go back for seconds. Pros: cuisine, service more

New 3/9/2004

Went with a group of people on a Tuesday evening and it was my first time eating Turkish food. The decor and ambience was interesting and the server help with our meal and wine selection. Overall a great place to try something new. Try their house wines, plus they have their on parking lot. Pros: Parking, Service more
