Good Place for a Date 3/10/2003

Though you need reservations, the place is worth making the trip from Pittsburgh. The atmosphere is cozy. Order the full dinner and you get salad, dessert, and coffee with your dinner. Order the veal shank and you will get a lot onthe plate though you will pay a lot too (~$40). Good place for a date to impress especially if you're family. Talk to the owners and you'll know why. Pros: Cozy, Friendly Cons: Expensive, Small more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The place is hard to miss: The large home in which the restaurant resides is painted a wild shade of fuscia, with kitschy gingerbread woodwork on the windows. In the back, between the parking lot and the house, stands a large statue of a polar bear. This is clearly not a chain restaurant.

    The Food
Veal dishes consist of various schnitzels and Austrian rahm goulash; beef ranges from sirloin steak to sauerbraten, beef goulash and German meatloaf; pork dishes offered include pork chops and roast loin. All are served with a large helping of potatoes and a vegetable (try the red cabbage).

    If You Order One Thing
To put perspective on the portions here, they offer wurst (sausage) platters "for the less hungry." Each platter contains three wursts, plus sauerkraut and sides.
