Having visited the pub 20 times the last 2 years particularly for the good food and because my hubby is British, I felt it time to write a review regarding the service. The staff for the most part are friendly and do a decent job HOWEVER, The OWNER is an elderly lady trying to hang on to her youth with green and red hair and short mini skirts is a VERY rude and arrogant person.Twice before we had difficulties with her being rude, adding 18% gratuity without permission to the credit card and just downright rude in conversation...but this last time was the last straw. Sat. Evening, Oct 11, 2008, we dined in house, myself, my husband and my mother. We all had an appetizer and a main course and a few drinks, and one dessert to go. When the check arrived, it was 71 dollars. We gave the waitress 80.00...seeing as the food portion was 50 dollars, that was an overall 13 percent tip but a nearly 20 percent tip on the food...and WHO pays for a tip on food to go??? The OWNER came to our table, and said, you paid 80.00 on a 71 tab, we said yes, she said well that is not enough tip. EXCUSE ME???? Isn't a tip at the discretion of the giver? Isn't it OPTIONAL? She insisted we pay more and we said well that is all you are going to get. We were so offended. So, what recourse do we even have? We can either refuse to go there again, and not enjoy the good food and who does that hurt? No one except us. We can tell others to stay away due to rudeness and to warn them to check their credit cards for added charges...and to beware if you don't leave a very high tip to be approached demandingly for more money...but what good does that do anyway? What I'd like to know is, what would some of YOU have done and how would that situation have made you feel if you were approached at your table by the owner demanding more tip monies? Am I being unrealistic? Best regards.
Pros: good food hot and genuine british fare
Cons: VERY RUDE AND ARROGANT OWNER, will ask for tip monies or add it without your permission BEWARE
