I have lived in SM for almost 30 years. I have been to the supposed ""City vet"" actually went there for years. Until My best friend bought me Higgin's (Shih Tzu) in '08...This is his (Higgin's) Momma's vet. I couldn't be more pleased with the staff, Doctors, and Receptionist. While taking Higgin's in for his second set of shots the staff discovered a sever eye problem. Higgin's eyelashes didn't flip up, like ours, they grew down and onto his eyes, which caused ulcers. He had divots in both eyes similar to golf balls. They went ABOVE and beyond for my sweet baby and me. I have NO doubt the love they have for my dog. I wouldn't dream of taking him elsewhere. These People are TOP NOTCH!!!! Thank you for EVERYTHING you do for us!!!! The BEST and Reasonably priced for sure. more

Every time I have any interaction with this establishment, the staff is confused and unorganized. I have been here three times and EVERY TIME, it never fails, they give me the WRONG doggy report card and have FORGOTTEN to do something I have specifically asked them to do. This last time they forgot to test my dog for worms and heartworms. They then gave me a heartworm preventative to start my dog on. I later learned that if a dog has heartworms and is given a preventative they can experience some very serious side effects, and in rare cases can even die. My dog is a recent adoption from the pound, and therefore could very easily have heartworms, which is why I made a point to specifically ask for a heartworm test - its also part of the package you pay for when you adopt from the city pound, and therefore something they should have done without my asking. THIS ESTABLISHMENT PUT MY DOGS HEALTH AT RISK because of their horrendous organization skills, and inability to communicate between staff members. please save yourself the trip out to the boonies where they are located, and just use a vet in town. it would be a real task to find a vet worse than this one. more

We have been taking our furbabies to Kings Highway Animal Clinic for several years now. We have a pretty large furbaby family and we insist on loving and caring people to help us take care of them. This is exactly what we experience each time we go there. \r \r In April 2009 our Aussie mix developed a fast growing, cancerous mammary tumor. We didn't know what we were looking at, except that the skin was tearing and we knew it didn't look good. We called that morning and were told to bring her in. We live 2hrs north of San Marcos, but knew that she would receive the utmost care at Kings Highway. After finding out what it was and our options we decided to have the Dr do surgery. We were amazed, she was able to take out the entire tumor and our Lyda has been cancer free since then. Lyda was completely spoiled while she stayed at the clinic. \r \r Right now our beloved snuggle bunny, Clark, is currently in the care of Kings Highway. They are attempting to figure out if the growth on his front leg is cancerous or not, and if amputation is possible. The vet and the staff carry him around all day. He gives them bunny kisses *aka licks* and is just loving being so well cared for. The Dr. asked if we wanted a referrel to a vet that deals with exotic animals, like bunnies; I couldn't say no fast enough. We know that whatever the outcome will be, that he was first and foremost their concern, that all they want to do is to help these little loves of our lives live a long, happy and healthy life. When it comes time to help them cross the Rainbow Bridge, they are there to love them all the way to heaven and beyond. \r I can and have gone on and on only two of our animals. There is not enough space for me to write about all of our wonderful experiences with this very fine group of people. \r If you want to have the very best care for your animals, then check them out. Their prices are more than fair, and money isn't the first thing they talk about. They are also very willing to set up a payment plan so money doesn't have to factor into your decision to treat or put to sleep because the price is more than you can pay. Pros: Loving and caring staff, truly loves the animals they serve Cons: I can't think of a single con. more

Kings Highway staff cares about your pets. They are more than just animals to them, they are little people. And it is very obvious that the staff loves what they do. Also, when my dogs go in for their check-ups, they get little report cards about each one of them. I love it. more

Let me first say that I've used vets in Five different states for everything from horses and livestock to dogs and cats. These folks are as good as it gets, and I've had some good vets. Recently, our little dog, Bailey was rushed to a 24 hour facility at 2am with a very high fever. The care was courteous and with quality, but the suggested 'tests' were estimated between $500-$800. The clinic would close at 8am (now 4am), so, I would have to pay $255 transfer fee, or relocate her myself. After concluding that she was in no immediate danger for the next few hours, I took her home, and then to KIngshighway as soon as they opened. The care was professional and prompt as usual. The entire treatment, including xray, blood, urine, et al, with 2 weeks rx's was $161. Dr. Gowan calls you at home to check on the pet. If you leave a pet, they call you 2x a day with updates. The office staff is kind, courteous,and helpful. They offered coffee. Folks, I know many vets, I've worked with many vets, I have vets as friends. The team here is just simply unbeatable for level of care, service, and price. You simply CANNOT do better for your pets! If you live in Austin, San Antonio, Lockhart, or the HIll Country, drive the extra miles and save money. You may very well save your pet, too! This is hands down the BEST vet clinic around. They are very nice and very helpful. They aren't just interested in getting you in and out for a quick visit, they really care about your pets well being and will go above and beyond for your animal. I really recommend them to everyone who is looking for a great vet! more

I have tried many different vets in san marcos and have even driven to Wimberley in search of a decent vet but have been disappointed by their service every time. This is not the case with King's Highway. They are always on time, friendly and personable. They do not sneak in the extra charges like other vets do and King's Highway has helped me feel confident in my pets' health. I would recommend them to anyone who wants the best care for their pet at the best price! Pros: personable staff provide quality service at an excellent price more

Dr. Meredith was very knowledgable and helpful in diagnosing our new puppies allergy problem. He is doing fine now and we have a new favorite vet! more
