We went into King Shade & Window looking to buy a series of new
shades - black-out in the bedrooms, light passing shading in the
living room and blinds in the kitchen and bathroom. I was told it
could take as much as 2-3 weeks if things were back ordered, etc.
(worse case scenario). I took off work on a Thursday to be at home
when George showed up to measure and bring the color guide.
Unfortunately he forgot the color guide which meant we had to arrange
another time 9 days later (I wasn't going to take a second day off of
work). We made it clear that we wanted black-out shades so that the
bedrooms would be dark. George suggested putting the blinds on the
inner dimension of the window instead of the outer dimension. I was
a bit worried this would let in too much light be he assured me there
would be just a tiny bit of light and the rooms would be quite dark.
So we ordered. Almost a month later nothing had happened. No call.
No word. I checked to make sure and they had taken the money from my
credit card several weeks earlier. So I called them. They said that
there had been some trouble getting the order and it would be soon.
When I said they should have called me to let me know they blew me
off. Two weeks later they were finally installing the blinds.
I told George that we were disappointed with the time it took. He
had a long story about how the company they buy from went under and
it threw them into chaos. That's a great reason. I would have
accepted that reason, IF they had called me up at anytime in the 6
weeks while I was waiting for the blinds. That is what I would
expected for $2000.
The installation in the living room was great. The blinds looks
great and at no charge they did a good job of removing the old
shutters. The kitchen blind was not completely leveled so we had to
adjust that, but it was acceptable. However, the the black-out
shades did not make the bedrooms not dark. We think that this is
largely because the black-out shades were placed in the interior
dimension of the windows, almost immediately next to the glass, so
light leaks in through the sides. Additionally, our windows turn out
to not be totally an even width (something I would have figured
someone in the business would be careful to check - but something I
didn't realize beforehand). Anyways our two year old was still
waking up with first light at 4:30 am. So we had to go out and buy
two six foot long pieces of wood to block the remaining light. Now
she sleep in until 7:30. Let's just say, the blind with a piece of
wood in front doesn't look that good and needing to jerryrig this
solution was extremely disappointing. I would have expected much
more from someone who has been in the business for so long.
Would I go back - NO.
Would I recommend them to a friend - NO.
I didn't give them 1 star because they did a couple things well and I
could imagine people having a good situation if they were luckier.
Pros: Friendly
Cons: Slow, bad advice
