I had high hopes for Khayam. I love Persian food and have had wonderful Persian meals many times, especially at Reza's in Chicago.
Lots of problems at Khayam:
1. store-bought white pita, which is thin and tasteless.
2. runny hummus
3. flavorless chopped salad
4. the rice (which is usually a highlight of a Persian meal) was undercooked and basically unseasoned. I expected a nice taste of dill and saffron.
5. the water tasted like dirt.
6. the restaurant was dark and cold--we kept coats and hats on.
I realize it has only been in business a couple of months. Still, they really need to step up to the plate. Rami's, just down the block, towers over this place for fresh and tasty felafel, pita and hummus (Rami's, in fact, is the best hummus I have had outside of Jerusalem).
Pros: Lunch value menu--5.99 entree includes rice, hummus, salad
Cons: Bland food, freezing cold restaurant, nothing exciting
