Kent Deford isn't, in my opinion, your typical insurance salesman.
First of all, he doesn't really SELL his product to you. He listens to what you need, asks you a few questions to understand better, and then lays out for you what Shelter Insurance policies he has that meet those needs best.
I found car insurance from him to be substantially cheaper than the alternatives when I found myself in a sticky situation: although I had had insurance several years before and didn't have any problems with it, I went car-less for a period of years and so didn't have any insurance, either. When I got a new car in my name and went to get insurance, all the usual sources were ENORMOUSLY expensive!
But not Shelter. And Kent Deford ... well, he is just a gentleman who provides a service, not what we often think of as a stereotypical smarmy insurance salesman.
He also handles our insurance on our home as well as our cars, and when we had a third car (between two adult drivers), he worked with us to get inexpensive insurance for it since it was very seldom driven. Not every insurance agent will bother, since it's more work for them and less money. Plus, there have been instances when he's noticed that we'd been mistakenly paying for services we didn't need coverage for, and he not only called it to our attention, he had the charges reversed so we had a credit! Amazing.
Each time we've had a claim, he's been absolutely easy to work with there, too.
Honestly, I can't think of any complaints I have about the guy or his service. Five stars, absolutely.
