I discovered Kensho last August when I bought a $50 trial package (classes AND uniform!) for my 6 year-old son. Roger, the owner of Kensho, called me right away to schedule an introductory private (and free!) session for my son, so that he could easily follow his first group class. When we went there I liked the place right away: easy free parking in the building, clean sunny classroom with a nice large window, and Roger himself: Roger is not only a very experienced martial arts instructor, he's also a very friendly guy, always attentive to everyone, in a good mood, and passionate about his job.
He has 2 young boys so he knows very well how to deal with kids. He's patient but strict, and teaches them both the technical aspects and the values of martial arts.
His teaching assistants, Todd and Christine, are also great with kids. The classes are never too crowded, and very often, there are 2 instructors, so the kids get a lot of attention and help.
As I watched my son's classes, I thought it looked so cool that I should do it too! So I enrolled a few weeks after my son started. You get a discount for each additional family member, so it's pretty reasonable. It took me a few weeks to really enjoy the class, because I hadn't realized how technical Mixed Martial Arts was and I felt completely dumb among the group of people who had started months before me (although everyone was really friendly). The adult classes usually have a really low number of people, because you can choose among so many classes in the week, so I got a lot of extra help and quickly started enjoying it more and more. Now I'm hooked!
What I like most about Kensho Martial Arts is the feeling that you are not in this kind of huge places that feel like a factory. At Kensho, you quickly know everybody, it's a family business run by a great professional, who really cares about sharing his passion for martial arts.
