I cannot say enough awesome things about Kensho Martial Arts. The instructors are warm , knowledgeable and fun! They teach all the important technical aspects of martial art, but also the equally important respectful aspects. \r \r Kensho's schedule makes it SO EASY for me as a parent. I can take my son on our schedule. No penalty for missed classes, and we can stop and start lessons at any time if we leave town. \r \r My Son Noah loves this place, we have been coming here for more then 2 years! \r \r Their facility is very clean, wide, full of sunlight and it even has a amazing city view, the parking is also free and very convenient!\r \r Check it out! you will love it!\r \r Michael.P more

Kensho is a great martial arts program for kids! You can tell how passionate Sensei Roger and Sensei Mike are about martial arts and how much they care about all the kids. My son has been going to Kensho for 6 months now and he absolutely loves it! It's an awesome program that teaches martial art skills, as well as discipline and respect. more

Great School 5/9/2012

I have studied various martial arts on and off for many years at many different schools. For me it's not what I study it's all about the instructor, the students, and the place of study. You need to feel comfortable at the school and you need to feel safe. Both of these things are true at Kensho. Having said that, Kensho is also a great place to study martial arts because you also get exposed to many different styles. The best thing to do is come and visit the school and do a trial package, your best judge is yourself more

Best Martial Arts School 5/7/2012

I am so glad that I discovered Kensho. I was looking around the downtown area for a while and didn't really find anything that could compare to Kensho. The different blends of martial arts that they teach here is remarkable. The instructor, Roger Luri, Is definitely top notch. 7th degree black belt, need I say anymore. I love the way he teaches that he is very meticulous in everything. I used to go to a different martial arts school and so I know what a great instructor he is. He wants you to really perfect all the fundamentals so you perform at your best. I really enjoy everyone's company in class also, they are all helpful and a real fun bunch. more

Undeniably the best place in Chicago to learn Martial Arts!! 5/7/2012

Having never really trained in martial arts I have always been hesitant to jump in to any sort of school for fears of being treated as a number., by instructors who aren't really experienced. I don't just want to get a sweat going, I want to learn. I want to commit to a program/team that is led by someone I can really respect and trust. I saw the offer for Kensho Chicago and thought to myself, ""meh, another martial arts school"" However as I looked into it, specifically the Instructors resume, my interest was piqued. This guy really has really dedicated himself to these arts, and has accumulated a lifetime of experience. That in of itself was enough to make me investigate. Looking into it further I found that the classes are welcoming, and encouraging. With smaller class sizes where I can get individual attention and instruction, from someone who knows what they're talking about at that! With fellow class mates of all types, Roger has done a tremendous job molding us into a disciplined class without being too serious. Everyone keeps a smile on their face while training. The school is conveniently located, with free parking, and the space itself is immaculate. All the training equipment is either new, or in mint condition. Everything is extremely well kept. The class schedule is very accommodating.with Morning and Evening classes. You can get started for a trial month at $50 which even includes your uniform. I am about a month in and am loving it so far. I am quite a skeptic, and have yet to find any reason to not continue. I feel as though I've learned much, and have noticeably increased my health, and self confidence in the past few weeks. There is even a childrens class. My seven year old daughter started it last week, and to be honest I have never seen her this excited about any of her extracurricular activities. They even emphasize discipline in the home. With a worksheet/responsibility chart that the child uses to document homework/chores around the house, which is then taken into consideration when its time to promote up to another belt. So far, it is one of the best choices I have made for myself, and as a parent. If you're interested in learning a martial art, or having your child do so, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't give Kensho a look. more

An amazing place to learn Mixed Martial Arts! 5/7/2012

I discovered Kensho last August when I bought a $50 trial package (classes AND uniform!) for my 6 year-old son. Roger, the owner of Kensho, called me right away to schedule an introductory private (and free!) session for my son, so that he could easily follow his first group class. When we went there I liked the place right away: easy free parking in the building, clean sunny classroom with a nice large window, and Roger himself: Roger is not only a very experienced martial arts instructor, he's also a very friendly guy, always attentive to everyone, in a good mood, and passionate about his job. He has 2 young boys so he knows very well how to deal with kids. He's patient but strict, and teaches them both the technical aspects and the values of martial arts. His teaching assistants, Todd and Christine, are also great with kids. The classes are never too crowded, and very often, there are 2 instructors, so the kids get a lot of attention and help. As I watched my son's classes, I thought it looked so cool that I should do it too! So I enrolled a few weeks after my son started. You get a discount for each additional family member, so it's pretty reasonable. It took me a few weeks to really enjoy the class, because I hadn't realized how technical Mixed Martial Arts was and I felt completely dumb among the group of people who had started months before me (although everyone was really friendly). The adult classes usually have a really low number of people, because you can choose among so many classes in the week, so I got a lot of extra help and quickly started enjoying it more and more. Now I'm hooked! What I like most about Kensho Martial Arts is the feeling that you are not in this kind of huge places that feel like a factory. At Kensho, you quickly know everybody, it's a family business run by a great professional, who really cares about sharing his passion for martial arts. more
