Editorial review from Citysearch 2/14/2013

This is a good place to take your dog, I have an elderly Pom and they have been nothing but amazing every 2 months that I go in there. My dog is seen by the blonde young woman there and she is so good with him. Henry is also an excellent person to do buisness with. They also do alot of charitable work with the pet pantry. In regards to Ann15 you might have gone on a day when he is NOT open. They are closed SUN-TUES. There are two entrances because there is another buisness there called Horsefeathers. Its a highend Antique Dealer. I think they are the ones that own the expensive cars out front. So you might encounter snootie ppl. Its also on Chandler, which is a empty industrial street in black rock. So there might be folks as such around. As a loyal customer. I give Henry and KC Groomers A PLUS all around!!! more

Things are changing 6/23/2011

If its Henry then he is GREAT. HE is 5 stars. If its the others that are now running the place, be prepared to pay more than you ever did with Henry. Be prepared to deal with a bratty groomer who will cut you off if you exchange with her, and will not listen to anything but her own thinking. Today I was tested just to far - I am sure I looked like a jerk but no matter, every step of the way I was pushed. What was always a matter of course, and 34-45 Dollars max, was $65 with an attitude. I am finished here. After many many years. Look Henry is a GREAT man, loves his work,, takes care with the animals, and is continuing his work with the city so he is not going to be there as much. I think its going to loose its family touch. For me, today was about the worst I ever felt or got in any business dealing there.. but I admit the cut was BEAUTIFUL!~ more

Be Careful! 6/14/2011

I just got a Yorkie Tea Cup and since I read so many good reviews for Kennel Club I decided to go there. I park and out side the location and 20 feets away was 2 gentlmens talking to each other, I keep walkin to the door thinking they were staff of the grooming place, when I walk inside the Kennel Club there were no one , no animals no human, so I turn around and walk out 1 of the guy who I though was staff come walking to me from the parking area yelling ""what you want?!!!"" Im shock and not even wanting to replay to some one who definitely is and looks aggressive specialy when I have my 2 kids with me. I walk to the car and didn't make any eye contact but don't show no demeanor, the guy say's ""whell you are a B**ch!!"" at that moment I already have the kids in the car and we are moving, he keeps yelling all kind of bad words and wanting we to answer what I want, I half open my window and nicely tell him ""Sr you need to learn manners"" and left him more mad and yelling even more. I explained my kids who where frightened since they are not use to this type of behaviour that the guy attitud had nothing to do with us, he gave us all his aggression and call me names with out even knowing me but his issues had nothing to do with me and comforted them. I realy dont have a clue of what i did wrong if I did, all I did was walk in a grooming location, Im not sure if the guy was staff he definitely belong to the place since he had a red Ferrari park right in front off the Kennel Club grooming door with all doors and hood wide open. All I can say is if? you still want to go to this place because like me the previous reviews convinced you, make sure you have something to defend yourself and be cautious, I wish I had my pepper spry or a taser with me at that moment I really feared for my kids and my self at that place, keep in mind that thE Grooming place is at an isolated area with big abandoned bldgs around. I was looking forward to meet Henry and be part of the nice reviews here and at Angies List but Im not sure if I meet him and if that savage was Henry he is not nice at all. more

Henry is THE BEST!! 1/31/2011

I have been taking my dog to Kennel Club for many years, before it was at its current location. I had a sheltie (minature collie) for 16 years and loved him dearly. I hadn't brought him in for a while and one day I walked in the shop and Henry knew what happened immediately without me saying a word. He cried with me! Not many people understood the very special bond I had with my dog, but he truly loves each of his clients as his own dogs. \r \r He is very knowledgable, compassionate and his services are VERY reasonably priced. He also allows for free nail trims in between baths, something which my dog won't let me do, but Henry can do in a snap!\r \r I was VERY lonely without a dog and Henry was a reference for me to adopt a dog at the city shelter as he volunteers there and with many other local animal organizations. I am happy to say that my pound puppy and I are happy several years later (and he LOVES Henry!). He is an advocate for dogs. He helped to start a local pet food pantry! I recommend Kennel Club to ALL pet parents! :-) more

Caring dog grooming for pets and owners 6/23/2010

As do most dog owners, I want the best for my dog. I've been to the fanciest dog groomers in town (you know the ones that look like a day spa,) but they were unpredictable and costly!!! The last time I brought my goldendoodle into one of those other salons, she had some mats starting to form, so I wanted to get those taken care of right away, before they got out of hand. When I brought her in, they gave her a bath first, said they couldn't get the knots out (because the bath I didn't ask for locked them in) and recommended I shave her down. They didn't do what I asked, made the situation worse and charged me $55 for me to be left in a worse situation than when I started. Then I found Henry at Kennel Club, who WAS able to get the mats out with a little time and effort. He also gave me some grooming tips and showed me how to use the tools, and thinned her coat out a bit to prevent future mats - all for less about the same as what that other groomer charged me the week before. And, the extra bonus of free nail trims (or trims around the eyes) in between groomings is just wonderful. Kennel Club Grooming may not look like a day spa for dogs, but they sure do get pampered there. Pros: gentle and friendly with pets, reasonable costs, quick appt Cons: hot and dark more

The BEST Dog Groomer with the BIGGEST heart!!! 10/9/2008

10/9/2008 It's been about 2 years now since we 1st took our pom-mix to Henry. (We are the ones who wrote the last review!) He has since moved to Chandler Ave & is no longer just a block away, but it is SO worth the extra drive to go see him!!! He, Anna, Lisa & the rest of his staff have continued to give us GREAT service & MUCH kindness each time we come. Our dog LOVES to come see Henry & she is SO good for him! He is a ""dog whisperer"" & the dogs know it!!! Today he looked at a little bump she's had on her rump for a while & said it was just a sebaceous cyst, like a pimple, so he took care of it for her & put some betadine on it. How nice of him!!! We were worried that it was something more serious!!! Henry is ALWAYS going above & beyond for his animals. He ALWAYS makes time for you & your dog. He is kind, gentle, respectful & loving towards the animals & his owners. It is a wonderful place to take your dog & we feel it is the BEST!!! Our neighbor, 2 doors down, has been taking her dog to Henry for many, many years!!! I recommend him to everyone I can!!! Today, our little pom got a cute little scarf to wear for halloween as a gift from Henry! What a nice thoughtful gift! Plus, I read an article today hung up in the waiting area that Henry also volunteers his time & services to the SPCA! Now that is truly special & generous!!! There should be more Henry's in this world & if there were, it would DEFINITELY be a much better place!!! So take your pet to The Kennel Club where you are ALWAYS treated like family!!! :))) Pros: EVERYTHING!!! Cons: NOTHING!!! more

BEST Dog Groomer 9/13/2006

9/14/2006 We have a 5-yr-old pomerian-mix. She is VERY fussy when we clip her nails & the experience is extremely traumatic for her & us. We tried everything, but even with the 2 of us, it was almost impossible! She suffers from minor seizures & the anxiety she gets from our clipping attempts brings on the attacks. We had our vet try to do her nails, but she gets very nervous when we go there & it is expensive. It is a long drive & she gets very nervous in the car. So, I did a search online. The Kennel Club is just around the corner from me! I called & talked to a VERY nice lady named Lisa. I asked how much it would cost to trim my dog's nails. She said NOTHING! I thought I heard her wrong, but she said there was no charge for a nail trim! I was pretty surprised! Then I asked her if they clean teeth, cause her breath had been a little stinky the past couple of weeks. She said that Henry, the owner, would take a look & I didn't need an appointment, just stop right in during business hrs. It was raining today, so I drove the short distance to the shop. I was hoping my dog wouldn't have an attack. I was greeted by another very nice lady who took her in right away. Then Henry said hello to her with a little kiss on her forehead & a gentle pet. The lady clipped her nails in less than 5 minutes!!! I was shocked! She was so good for her! Then Henry took a look at a bump on her right foot that she'd been licking & said to keep an eye on it that it doesn't get bigger. He said he would take another look next time she came in for a trim. He also looked at her teeth & said they looked good. He suggested Elmwood Pets Supply for some teeth cleaning treats for the bad breath. I asked the lady again if I could pay them for trimming her nails & she refused again! They did such a GREAT job & We are sooooo happy to have found them. They truly care for their pets & LOVE their jobs!!! We will repay them with many, many, referrals to come!!! Pros: EVERYTHING! Cons: NONE! more

Kennel Club Grooming 4/27/2006

My standard poodle, Rusty, was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma in Nov. of 2005. Because of his weekly chemo treatments, his immune system is down. We asked several groomers if they would be willing to bathe and trim Rusty's nails & hair after hours as he can't be exposed to kennel cough or other contagious diseases. No one would help us with this. We finally found Henry at the Kennel Club who not only washed Rusty up after hours, he carried him from our car to his shop, and took such great care to make him comfortable. He volunteered his time and did not charge us for this service. Henry brought tears to our eyes with his compassion. Rusty is now in remission and we have found a new friend, and groomer, at Henry's. Pros: Everything! more

Henry at the Kennel Club 4/8/2006

Henry at the Kennel Club clearly loves what he does. He has such a great way with all the dogs. He really gets to know all his regulars - and they him...Our dogs get excited and run to the door when we say ""Time to go see Henry"". Not only is he good at what he does, but he has a real commitment to the well being of all dogs (and other animals in need, as well). He has rescued and adopted more creatures than I care to count! Many of them would have been almost impossible to place for adoption due to personality and socialization issues, but Henry worked with them and turned them into loving pets. WE LOVE HENRY!!!! Pros: too many to mention more
