The Scene
This white clapboard building was originally a tavern opened to welcome wayward sailors that passed through the Vineyard Sound. Although the hotel is only open from May through October, the two-story lobby has a giant fireplace for snuggling on cooler nights. The staff is friendly and quick to give tips on what to do around the island.
The Details
Although the building is quite old, all 60 rooms have a maritime theme and are clean, modern and elegant. Some two-bedroom suites have balconies and kitchens, perfect for extended stays, and several rooms have views of the harbor or of the landscaped garden courtyard. Downstairs, the Newes from America is one of the best year-round pubs on the island serving fish and chips, burgers and great brews. There's also an outdoor pool, business traveler services and private parking (a really good thing in crowded Edgartown).
