My bride to be and I bought a wrap from Kay Jewelers at The Supermall for our already purchased engagement ring. The wrap in the store was slightly bent so the salesgal said she would order a new one.
There was no evidence Kay Jewelers ordered a new wrap because they could not produce a receipt. None of the salesgals could produce a receipt. Kay Jewelers ended up soldering our ring with the original asymmetrical wrap. This was problem #1. The salesgal then ordered a new wrap for us to fix the problem. We got the ring the 2nd time but now their guy set our ring too low relative to the wrap. Their guy said the only way they could fix the problem was to pay an extra $400+ to set the ring the way we wanted. This was problem #2. We said no way.
Kay refunded us the cost of the wrap and the insurance we initially purchased. Due to the soldering process, the brand name of my ring was rubbed off and my personal message to my bride was rubbed off as well. There was no offer to fix this problem. They also said that they supposedly added a half shank to the ring due to the soldering damage free of charge. The half shank that was repaired was visibly much thinner than the original (now its no thicker than a paperclip wire). Since they failed to add the original gold amount, I'm sure the overall value of the ring has diminished as well. I cannot prove the ring weighs any less because I did not weigh the whole ring before I gave it to Kay Jewelers. I am a commodities investor, so I know the value of gold. The Kay Jewellers repair guy also damaged the prong setting, so that from a aesthetic perspective, the whole setting tilts to one side. This will also diminish the value of the ring. No one wants an asymmetrical ring.
The Kay Jeweler manager said her guy was their ""top"" soldering guy. Iit would appear that the ring setting and presentation of what we wanted was above the ability of their ""top"" Kay Jewelers soldering guy. I wish I was told this before I allowed Kay Jewelers to solder and cosmetically and aesthetically damaged my ring. Thanks Kay Jewelers at the Supermall.
