This is my first review, so I'll try to be as specific as possible. Kawaii Bakery is a small, well-dressed boutique bakery that carries a broad variety of baked goods. They had not only sweet pastries - mostly of a Japanese influence - but also carried breakfast and dinner rolls as well as a selection of savory, meat-filled buns. What drew my appetite, though, was their selection of cakes. The selection was broad, ranging from cakes topped with fresh fruit (strawberries, kiwi fruit and more) to nutty cakes dressed in drizzles and swirls to chocolate cakes ornately decorated with chocolate shavings and carvings. The first thing they catch is your eye since each cake is crafted and decorated like a finely wrapped gift. Bite into one and your appetite will surely get caught as well. I picked up a Hazelnut cake to take to a friend's gathering and everyone absolutely loved it. It was flavorful, but not overpoweringly sweet. The texture was spongy, delicate and moist, but not overly so. While many cakes rely on the frosting and filling for flavor, Kawaii's cake was delicious through and through - topping, batter, filling and all. The price is hard to top, too: each cake is about $13.00 and serves between 5-8 people (depending on how large a slice you dole out). They are well presented and while the boxes they come in are already attractive, the proprietors can embellish them further for special occasions. They make great gifts and will surely be part of my Holiday potlucks and gift exchanges. All in all, a tidy setting, polite service and delicious baked goods garner Kawaii Bakery a high recommendation.
Pros: Interesting flavors, good service, tasteful and attaractive displays
