Best

The chicken teriyaki was really good! They don't douse the chicken with teriyaki sauce, which I really...

Worst

First time at Katsuya, it was on Sunday @ around 4:30pm, so it wasn't that busy yet. We were sited outside on ground level. Itt was a nice sitting outside, we were able to see...

Small portions that are very creative. 7/10/2008

The portions are small so it is suggested that you order several things. I really did enjoy several dishes like the cod (with the leaf), lobster, and the eggplant really surprised me (in a good way!). Even the dessert assortment plate was pretty good. The service was average and that was on a busy day. Our waitress was ""bubbley"" and was very helpful in suggesting food. The food is definitely not cheap so do not come if you are on a budget or you will leave hungry. Pros: Different creations, ambiance Cons: not cheap. more

OK food. VERY SLOW SERVICE. 7/5/2008

THE FOOD: the whole time we were there we only ordered different sushi rolls. The food didnt taste bad but i bet i can find better tasting sushi around glendale for cheaper. Nothing on the menu impressed me. While regular sushi rolls were $6-7 per roll. their specials (such as rainbow roll) went for $15-17. There is a squid sashimi on the menu that would have tasted better if it wasnt for the hidden mint leaf at the bottom that made me gag. Vegetable rolls were good and so was salmon skin, but then again, how can you go wrong with these................... THE SERVICE: the day we went there, it was not packed at all. Actually the place was so empty that they closed the outdoor area on the ground floor. There were probably 3-4 people at the sushi bar inside and we sat outside on the balcony on the second floor, which was somewhat full but it is a very small, congested area. Although the place was not busy at all, we had to wait for our waiter for 20-30 minutes each time we wanted to order additional items, or drink refills. Although i understand the beauty of leisurly dining, spending 3.5 hours dining with my boyfriend on a regular day is too much. Pros: food Cons: service more

WORST SERVICE EVER!! TINY FOOD PORTIONS!! WORST EXPERIENCE AT A RESTAURANT EVER!! 7/5/2008

The waiter was trying to push the 'let me order for you' deal on us where he picks what he thinks we would like and then just keeps sending out food. It was a nice suggestion, BUT it was pushed a little too far. One member of our party was so aggrivated by it he left before we even ordered. THe waiter insisted that because we were a party of 8 that we HAD to order how he wanted us to order which was family styleotherwise it would 'be a mess' and our meal woud 'be a lot more successful' if we ordered how he wanted to. This was said and over emphisized three times before we ordered. Then when he came back to take our order he said 'so are you going to trust me or not?'. So we ordered how we wanted to order which was by couples of what we wanted to share not a large free for all like he so strongly suggested. Pros: wannabe trendy in the fancy new americana, NO PROS!! Cons: service was the worst in my life, manager was rude, pushy snobby hosts. more

Flashy but falls short 7/5/2008

If you're looking for a trendy Vegas-like dining experience, the ambiance in this location of Katsuya is right on point. However anything deeper than the ""look"" of this place falls completely flat. My boyfriend and I have been to the Katsuya in Studio City several times and are familiar with the menu. This Glendale location just doesn't match up. The famed baked crab hand rolls don't have enough of the special sauce that makes them ridiculously good (and in Glendale, they're $7 instead of $6, pushing the ridiculous price for a single hand roll even higher). The other sushi rolls were sloppily made and EVERYTHING on the menu was at least 2-4 dollars higher than in Studio City. The service was decent, although there are hordes of servers standing around in clumps and it took three tries with 3 different waiters to get a paper napkin. Pros: trendy atmosphere Cons: high price for mediocre food, sloppy presentation and disorganized staff more
