Breathe of fresh air 8/29/2006

Threw a party here last weekend with 15 friends. It was a great time, good service, no cover for friends, good crowd (sometime too packed at times - but hey its a party). My only suggestion is to make sure you request a good table - meaning one NOT right in front of the bar in the middle of all the foot traffic. Ask for one of the tables on the mini-upper floor in the back of the club or downstairs...it'll save you some headache. Ask for the manager Chris - He's the man! more

We had such a great party on Sat night and the crowd was hot and beautiful. There was an endless supply of pretty ladies including the employees. The music was awsome with two djs going at it. What a hot spot! Pros: Hot Cons: Tight spot with not much space more

The decor of this establishment has to be one the many great things I can say about Katra. The food is beautiful and put togeather well without the cost. The drinks are creative and mouth watering. Perfect spot for a party. No wonder the reviews are positive as they give you what they promise. The decor in the inside is beautiful and warm and its a nice easy hot spot without all the "BS" that other clubs seem to have. Yes they do ask you to do bottles which is fine but there is no pressure and if tables are free you can sit down. The dj on Friday was great and played everything. It was fun here and I highly recommend these guys more

Had a party here on Sat for 40 of my best friends and we had so much fun that it was the best party I had ever. We were taken care of by both management and staff and the service was excellent. The drinks were club prices but we did not have to pay cover which was nice. We were asked to do btl service but no one really wanted to so I explained to the manager and he said that would be fine as long as we took care of his waitstaff. Thats the first time I ever heard anyone concerned about there staff. The food we had was nice even though one dish did not come out the owner sent us some apptizers free and a btl of champagne. The music rocked and was a mix of everything which is nice and the dj took requests. By far the best night out we have had in a long time! Pros: Everything espically Service more

Had a mad night here on Sat! Everything was great and the staff was excellent. Its nice to find a hidden gem like this but I am sure it won't be hidden for long. The birthday crew had a great time and the owner took really good care of us including free drinks. You cant get that nowadays in any other spot. Drinks were the same price as many other clubs but reasonable considering no cover. I like this place so two thumbs Up Pros: Lots of pros Cons: hot more

Had my birthday here on sat nite and loved this place! the people were nice and the staff great. Everything from the decor to the service was excellent and the owners hands on. There Lychee martini was amazing and so was the lamb tagine. They gave me a btl of champagne for my birthday and I have never seen that anywhere else. We had booked at the last minute and the owner promised us he one take care of us and he did. All my friends were allowed in even though one came in flip-flops but the guys at the door made an exception even though there was a dress code. Wonderful in NY 7/23/2006

Meet the best new place I have seen in a while. The service was great and everybody was polite. Food excellent and drink was a little pricey but no different from any hot spot. No door problems but are strict on dress code! It is like an interview when you get in with the owner as he seems to be checking that everyone has a personality. Its actually quite funny. We enjoyed this place and stayed way longer then planned. It was crowed but that is expected I suppose. Goodmusic also. Pros: Nice Cons: Busy more

I don't ever write reviews but this time I feel the need! I went to this new place Katra on Sat nite and I have to say its a wonderful spot. I am fed up with the NY clubs and there snobbery like they are better then everyone well this palce is different. Great food , service, drinks and doormen. I was shocked by the way everything was about making things right. We got a table and the manager offered us drink specials on btls which I have never heard of. He then bought us iur fourth btl on the house. I thought I must have been in my local Irish bar some where and then I remembered I was in Katra. My friend got really drunk and he was politely taken outside and given some water now most times Kevin is usually kicked out for that. When he sobered up he was allowed to rejoin the party! Everything about this place rocked and its sister club Taj could learn a thing or two from Katra as I was there last week and it was opposite. The best thing about Taj was they told me about Katra!!!! Pros: To many to write Cons: No Dancing more

    New York City's Katra serves Middle East, Moroccan fusion style tapas designed by Chef Jonathan Lindenauer of Jean Georges. The kitchen is open till 2am. The lounge plays European techno and Middle-Eastern hip-hop to regular beats and has a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.

    The decor at Katra is Moroccan styled with all the furnishings brought back from Morocco. Pillow-strewn couches and intimate nooks dot the lounge. The mood is laidback with a distinct Middle-Eastern vibe. The cocktail list is Middle-Eastern in origin and has distinct flavors like pomegranate, lychee and lavender blossom.
