Kates is one of the finer bars in Evanston (and there are certainly quite a few of them). It has the quaint atmosphere of an East Coast pub without being too pretentious. The bartenders are very ""on the ball"" with getting drinks to you quickly and take every stride to keep the place clean (An immaculate bar in this town is next to unheard of - but the Kate's staff does it well) The bar attracts a wide variety of patrons - old, young, locals, and the usual group of Utahns. Since the bar is nestled in historic downtown Evanston, during the far-and-few special events, you have a prime oasis that is a block from all the usual festivities. Downside - the bar gets crowded and in a hurry. Try and go sometime before 6pm, as that's when they tend to get slammed. But, it's a great experience nonetheless.
Pros: Great Service, Clean, Good atmopshere
Cons: , Not the greatest food
