In response to Scott P. below, we would like to add the following:\r \r It is truly a difficult and emotional time when a pet owner has to say that final goodbye to their loved one; however Karnik understands this heartache and often, as a family, we grieve the loss alongside the owner.  While we came to love both **** and ***** in their short 9 day stay with us, our hearts broke for **** in his difficult and ""special needs"" condition.  We truly empathize with the family having to make that ultimate final decision that no pet owner ever wants to face.  It is with utmost selflessness that we, as loving pet owners, invariably face this dilemma; one last chance to give to the one that has given so much for us.\r \r We also understand that during such difficult and emotional times, while trying to grieve this loss, we seek out answers, or sometimes even seek to blame someone or something else for somehow causing our loss.  While losing **** has been a very difficult situation for all of us affected by his passing, it is important to note that everyone involved in his care did everything humanly possible to provide him with the best, most professional, loving care possible considering his condition; from his parents, to Karnik's professional pet care team, down to the veterinary care specialists who provided his medical care.\r \r As there were certainly very specific details surrounding ****'s ""special needs"" care, a public forum is certainly the last place to relive, recount, or replay ****'s final days with us.  Karnik has reached out to the family on various occasions and in a variety of ways; including face-to-face.  As a family-owned business, we have even consulted directly with the family's veterinarian for clarity of ****'s overall health and medical conditions.  While it is very sad to learn of his passing, through our investigation into this matter, we have found that his euthanasia was not in any way due to a lack of love, care, or attentiveness Karnik Pet Lodges offered him while he was in our care.  **** left both our care and our pet lodging facility in the same manner, fashion, and health status as he did upon arriving to our facility 9 days prior. \r \r For transparency sake, Karnik has an exceptional 40 year reputation throughout our communities and are privileged to receive the referrals of so many within the pet care community.   With three locations proudly offering the best in professional pet care services, the Karnik family is certainly not ashamed of our policies and procedures that we employ in making sure every pet entrusted to our care is treated as if they were one of the family.  Anyone is welcome at any time to stop by one of our facilities to see first-hand just how detailed and professionally we monitor our guests; and we do this because our family genuinely cares about your family. \r more

I want to thank Ray Bauman. owner of Karnik Pet Lodge who sat with me and explained how company policy and procedures trumps customer care and satisfaction. How records of staff are more important and informative than an owners? recognition of their own pets condition. more

poor service 3/2/2011

I NEVER board my 3 Golden Retrievers, but needed to as we were having a large gathering at my house. Reserved two adjoining suites that would allow all 3 dogs to mingle with each other thru a door that connected the two suites. When I got there, I was told that was not available, but they did have two adjoining suites, but with no door! So great, 1 dog gets to see the other 2 dogs, but can't be with them. Nice!! It doesn't seem that hard to hold a reservation for what it was supposed to be, but apparently, here it is! I had specifically asked for such a setup when I toured the facility, and was told that it would not be a problem, as I booked months in advance! Needless to say, I left my dogs, but was at the door at 6:30 a.m. to pick them up. Will never use this place again, nor would I recommend it to anybody that actually cares about their pets more

Not a great place for animals 7/26/2008

We boarded our dogs here last Christmas and although it wasn't a terrible experience, I wouldn't recommend this place. They don't allow you to bring the dog's crate or any bedding and they strongly encourage you to allow them to use their own food. I strongly believe that all of this leads to a more stressful situation for the pet. I think it is clear that they are more concerned about making things easy for themselves than about the best situation for the animal. Our more sensitive dog took a couple of weeks to get back to his normal self after we returned home. \r \r The benefit to this place is that it is right in town and very convenient for those on the west side of Ann Arbor. It is also fairly large and so not likely to fill up so fast at holidays. Nonetheless, I'll avoid going there in the future. more
