reading jtuttle's review i can't help but wonder what kind of idiot wrote this review. the bolt that was missing from dipstick tube is and was visible to the naked eye. no xray vision,no glasses,no seeing eye dog. just the naked eye. you talked about a link to see what your talking about. i must need xray vision to see it. i'll tell you the same thing i told your hero karl. he may or may not be a good mechanic. but whoever worked on my wife's car is a hack. they left several things apart and there is a knock in the engine. no one asked him to"" make a house call"" but he was given the opportunity to come see the shoddy work done by him and his employees . he chose not to. no big deal.....i'm sure with customers like you he will be in buisness for a long time to come. i noticed you and 2 other people left reviews within a few days of each other. 3 positive reviews i think we know what's up. serriously though how long do you think he has left in buisness. my rerviews are real, are yours ? would you like to come see the photos i took of all the stuff they left apart ? as far as my credibility....how about you ask that question in person. karl has my phone number anytime you think it's important enough. actually your kind of funny.......just like the idea that karl's auto repair will be in buisness more than a few more months. ""you have to tear into the engine to find the area where the dipstick tube is bolted"". .....now thats funny.....talk about something you know. crap like that makes it clear as can be that you don't have a clue. i hope you keep karls home phone number. if he's working out of his house ,does that make it a house call ???????????? ask around about me all you want. there aren't any surprizes. i know a little more about mechanics than you might think. i pay my way. but wont let karl or anyone else take advantage of my wife without having something to say about it. by the way everything i have said and a whole lot more is documented, photographed, and been verified by another shop. more

I got a few quotes from other machanics before A friend told me I should take my car to Karl and I am glad I did! Not only was his quote lower then the rest, he got my car running in no time! Well worth the drive for the money I saved. Finally there is someone out there who I can trust with my car and not worry about getting ripped off! more

Hello again Jim J!\r \r My family and I have taken my car to Karl for many years. I have always received quality service. I recommend Karl's Auto Repair to all my friends, and family and they have received nothing but competent and quality service.\r Jim, I have a few issues with your review. First and foremost, unless you have X-Ray vision, how could you possibly know that your dipstick tube was not bolted. Here is a link to replacing a timing belt which clearly shows you that you have to tear into the engine to find the area where the dipstick tube is bolted. Check out hyundai-forums! Please give me the name and phone numbers of all mechanics who make house calls. I have never found a mechanic anywhere who offers this service. Since I have known Karl for years, I questioned him about this review. I found out from him what type of car it is and was informed that your alleged unbolted dipstick tube would not be visible with the naked eye. This is why I decided to check it out for myself and why I decided to post the link for those who would not know that your statement is incorrect. I am also very familiar with Karl's staff and with his staff's family. I think you know what I mean by this, Jim.\r I have checked around and I have spoken with many people who are repeat customers at Karl's Auto Repair. They are extremely satisfied with his work. Karl does stand behind his work. He does warranty his work if it is due to his or his staff's negligence. However, Karl does not provide free services no matter who you are related to. Karl should not be held accountable for work that is NOT performed because the customer does not want it done. When you are told that there are other issues with your vehicle and you choose not to have it repaired, then shame on you not shame on him. \r I do agree with you on one thing Jim, I invite everyone to ask around! Karl is one of the most honest upstanding business men I've ever know! Now that I think about it. Maybe I should ask around about you Jim. I wonder if you have the reputation of an upstanding ""honest"" person. Or maybe you are just out to get something for nothing?\r Karl, if you are reading this. I hope I am not out of line but I just couldn't sit here and not say anything. Keep up the good work! And thank you for all the of years always going above and beyond for myself, my family and friends! \r more

small town word of mouth 1/26/2011

My wife took her car to Karlâs auto repair because of a broken timing belt. She was quoted $70 per hour to perform repairs.($85. Per hr posted). We thought it was great. We had talked to a couple of people that gave the shop decent references. $15. Per hr off shop rate at a professional auto repair shop should be a good deal .She was also allowed to make $100. per payday installments. At the beginning everything seemed good. The repairs included replacing the timing belt and all wear parts involved with it. It also, in this case, included remove/replace the cylinder head, due to timing belt breaking while the engine was running. The work on the head was done at outside repair shop. While performing work it was noted exhaust manifold had crack. Which led to finding pre cat converter was shot. We understand parts wear out and break. That's why the car was there to begin with. Within a couple of days having the car back the timing belt broke again. Karlâs auto towed it the 8 or 10 blocks to their shop @ $25 per tow. My wife was informed that a crankshaft position sensor had come apart and had ripped the new timing belt. It was repaired at $361.54 the shop ate the belt and she had to pay for sensor and r&r. the sensor is in the middle of the area they were working in to replace timing belt to begin with. can't help but wonder if that's a simple coincidence....i don't think so The 1st time I looked under the hood ,I found loose bolt holding the cam sensor, a bracket loose at the back of the head that holds the wiring harness and a broken electrical connector. The next time I looked I found the bolt that is supposed to hold the dipstick was there but not trough the dipstick tube.I was told they never touched the dipstick....again, coincidence ? how many are there? Now the car has a knock that sounds like it's coming from the top end of the motor. I don't know what it is yet. I know enough to understand it may or may not have anything to do with the work performed...maybe it's just one more coincidence that it happens to be in the exact area they worked The biggest issue I have is this IF ALL THIS SIMPLE STUFF THAT IS ABLE TO BE FOUND IN A TOTAL OF 10 MINUTES IS WRONG.............¦WHAT QUALITY OF WORK WAS DONE IN THE REST OF THE REPAIRS. I tried to talk to the shop about sub par work at top shop prices. The reaction I got was they don't leave anything loose or apart. They we’re very adamant about the top quality of work done at shop. I asked them to come the few blocks to our house to see the items left loose. Telling them also there was a knock in the car, and I didn’t want to drive it. I was told there was no chance they did anything wrong They insisted I am the only person to ever have problems with there quality of work. I was also told YOU GUYS DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND ANY MONEY. Fair enough business is business. I think we would get same quality of work The rate actually charged was more than the $70. P hr agreed. The price on 7 of the parts was billed at $875.42 the cost at popular parts store next to shop is $511. Over $350 markup on $511 That’s at my cost or yours simply walking in off the street. I would think they get a discount, don't know My wife spent over $2500 at Karlâs not including cat converter and oxygen sensor. And we didn't want to spend any money. They did sub par repairs, charged over 100% on parts, and refused to even consider the possibility of coming over to look at the things they left apart. Welcome to America . I have been as fair as I can be writing this. It's hard to find a business with integrity . I hope they do well. We won't be doing business with them anytime soon. Oh a last note My wife still owes around $ 600 she was allowed payments on the labor, that will be paid as agreed . She will fulfill her end of the deal. more
