Buyer Beware! This locally owned pet store claims to be different. Both their owner and manager will tell you how they don’t breed puppy mill puppies; they will tell you that their warranty is in place to help protect the buyer. Well after falling for all of the lies we experienced just the opposite. After falling in love with a puppy that had a small cough, we were told that he had seen a vet and the cough was due to nothing more than the hay in their cages and could be taken home. Our puppy had been prescribed amoxicillin as a “precaution”. Within 24 hours the cough had progressed to the point where our puppy clearly had more than a small cough. We immediately took him to a Just Pets preferred vet (as required by their 5 day warranty). After expressing a great deal of concern to the vet, they listened to his lungs with a stethoscope and said there was nothing to worry about. Within 72 hours our dog had stopped eating and become completely lethargic. We rushed him to our vet clinic where they agreed although nothing could be heard in the lungs, due to the severity of the cough, they needed to do x-rays. X-rays revealed that our dog had a severe case of pneumonia and if he failed to improve within the next 24 hours, he would require 24-hour care. Since then it’s been a 6-week process of trying to get him well. A lot time and money spent on making sure he got better, regardless of what it took. Nearly 6 weeks after we brought him home, we were finally given a clear vet report stating the pneumonia was gone. Throughout this time we were in constant contact with both the pet storeowner and her manager. On a number of occasions, both individuals admitted fault and stated that this situation was handled poorly and the dog should have never been sent home. They also admitted that we were lied to. He never saw a vet while in their care. Instead, he saw a vet tech that in our opinion mis-diagnosed. We have given Just Pets every opportunity to make this right. We asked that they cover the medical expenses that we incurred as a direct result of their negligence. We truly believe that had they done x-rays or had their vet done x-rays, we wouldn’t have ended up in the situation we did. After numerous conversations and hours spent trying to convince them that what happened was wrong, they simply stated that its “like when you bring a new born baby home, you can’t expect the hospital to cover expenses because your baby gets sick.” They also left us a voicemail stating “if you want a new dog, we can replace yours at no cost. However, if you are absolutely in love with this one then we wish you luck with the medical bills”. News flash guys, I would never trade in my child because he/she was sick. Maybe you should find a new analogy to justify your poor business practices. Your integrity is non-existent and we will most definitely continue to spread the word.\r
