Editorial review from Citysearch 9/22/2013

\r \r Buyer Beware! This locally owned pet store claims to be different. Both their owner and manager will tell you how they don’t breed puppy mill puppies; they will tell you that their warranty is in place to help protect the buyer. Well after falling for all of the lies we experienced just the opposite. After falling in love with a puppy that had a small cough, we were told that he had seen a vet and the cough was due to nothing more than the hay in their cages and could be taken home. Our puppy had been prescribed amoxicillin as a “precaution”. Within 24 hours the cough had progressed to the point where our puppy clearly had more than a small cough. We immediately took him to a Just Pets preferred vet (as required by their 5 day warranty). After expressing a great deal of concern to the vet, they listened to his lungs with a stethoscope and said there was nothing to worry about. Within 72 hours our dog had stopped eating and become completely lethargic. We rushed him to our vet clinic where they agreed although nothing could be heard in the lungs, due to the severity of the cough, they needed to do x-rays. X-rays revealed that our dog had a severe case of pneumonia and if he failed to improve within the next 24 hours, he would require 24-hour care. Since then it’s been a 6-week process of trying to get him well. A lot time and money spent on making sure he got better, regardless of what it took. Nearly 6 weeks after we brought him home, we were finally given a clear vet report stating the pneumonia was gone. Throughout this time we were in constant contact with both the pet storeowner and her manager. On a number of occasions, both individuals admitted fault and stated that this situation was handled poorly and the dog should have never been sent home. They also admitted that we were lied to. He never saw a vet while in their care. Instead, he saw a vet tech that in our opinion mis-diagnosed. We have given Just Pets every opportunity to make this right. We asked that they cover the medical expenses that we incurred as a direct result of their negligence. We truly believe that had they done x-rays or had their vet done x-rays, we wouldn’t have ended up in the situation we did. After numerous conversations and hours spent trying to convince them that what happened was wrong, they simply stated that its “like when you bring a new born baby home, you can’t expect the hospital to cover expenses because your baby gets sick.” They also left us a voicemail stating “if you want a new dog, we can replace yours at no cost. However, if you are absolutely in love with this one then we wish you luck with the medical bills”. News flash guys, I would never trade in my child because he/she was sick. Maybe you should find a new analogy to justify your poor business practices. Your integrity is non-existent and we will most definitely continue to spread the word.\r more

Quality Pet Store 5/14/2011

The staff and cleanliness of the store was great. This is not what you would feel as a typical pet store. They know a lot about where the dogs came from and the background of the breeders. We picked up the wrong food from them at first and once we realized it a week later they were eager to correct the mistake. We would return for future dogs without hesitation. more

great puppy great experience 3/17/2011

The previous review looks like a template someone posted - and has probably posted on many other pet store websites - without any actual experience with the place. We got a dog from JustPets and it was a great experience. We actually know of the breeder and he's not a puppy mill operator! We saw pics of the mom and dad and have their full history. The employees love the puppies and give them lots of affection. mikeadlter, relax, there are plenty of things in this world to freak out about, but JustPets ain't one of them! more

PUPPY MILL PUPPIES. DO NOT SUPPORT CRUELTY 12/13/2009

PUPPY MILL PUPPIES ********BE WARNED DO NOT SUPPORT? - ? - Today PUPPY MILL PUPPIES A puppy mill is a facility, large or small, that breeds dogs for profit. These facilities are notorious for ignoring the dogs' physical and emotional needs. The dogs ARE IN HORRIBLE PHYSICAL CONDITION go crazy from boredom, and their bodies waste away. They receive no compassion, and their spirits are broken. They live and die in pain and misery. THEY ARE EITHER EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS OR NEVER SEE DAYLIGHT THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TOYS ARE MUCH LESS GRASS.. MOST FEMALE DOGS CAN NOT WALK AND ARE CRIPPLE FROM YEAR AFTER YEAR IN A CAGE PRODUCING PUPPIES AT EVERY HEAT FOR PUPPY BROKERS AND PET STORES LIKE JUST PETS. How do you tell if a pet store gets puppies from puppy mills? First of all, pet stores that have a large selection of purebred puppies (say, 20 to 30) year-round are almost guaranteed to be getting dogs from this type of facility, since otherwise they would not be assured of a constant supply. Second, people who care about puppies look for good homes for them. They do not ship them off to be sold in pet stores THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN REPUTABLE BREEDERS DO NOT SELL ON THE INTERNET OR TO PET STORES. A third indication that a pet store's puppies are mass-produced in puppy mills is if pet store employees are reluctant to tell you the name of the breeder or where the breeder's facility is located. They may say they get puppies from ""private breeders."" Puppy mills ARE private breeders. JUST PETS will cited a ""strict privacy policy"" regarding its breeders. On registration papers provided to customers,if you get them they failed to provide any information about the dog's breeder. Because its a puppy mill if they do that breeder is in NE/MO/AR or OK and if you research it you will end up at a puppy mill. You will never see your puppies mother or father because if you did you would cry and you would worry about the health conditions of the pup. **PET STORES BUY FROM BROKERS WHO BUY FROM PUPPY MILLS BROKERS ARE THE MIDDLE MAN BETWEEN THE PUPPY MILL & PET STORE JUST PETS WILL TELL YOU CRAP ABOUT HOW THEY MET THE BREEDERS LIES THEY WILL TELL YOU THEY WORK WITH THE MAX FUND RESCUE GROUP IN DENVER LIES.
