I purchased a new home in Oct 2010. In Nov 2011, one of my heat pumps stopped blowing heat. I figured it would be a good idea to call Jones & Jones as my heat pump would still be under warranty. I was just outside my 1 year labor warranty which I accepted. They came out to my house at $130 for the first hour and $45 for each 30 minutes after that. The guy troubleshooted and decided that the thermostat had malfunctioned. He told me the thermostat I had was not very good to begin with (remember they were the ones who installed this system originally), and he would put in a much better Honeywell thermostat. He said the thermostat would be $100 (not a programmable one). I figured that was a part and covered by the warranty, but the service guy told me that thermostats are not covered under the heat pump warranty. So after it was said and done, I spent $350 on a practically new heat pump just to get a new thermostat.
