My name is Emily Niezer Johnston. I graduated from Cullman High School and spent the majority of my undergraduate years at the University of Alabama. I received my degree in secondary education from Athens State College. In 2001, I graduated from Cumberland School of Law. Following graduation I stayed in Birmingham and practiced with the firms of Lloyd, Gray & Whitehead and Carr, Allison, Pugh Howard Oliver & Sisson. With both firms I did insurance defense litigation. While in Birmingham I was invited to join the Inns of Court which is a group of lawyers and Judges who meet once a month to discuss matters of skills, ethics, professionalism and current legal topics.
Subsequently, I moved to Auburn and was offered a job with the Lee County District Attorney's Office. I prosecuted criminal cases in both district and circuit courts. While in Auburn I decided it was time to give back to the community so I joined Junior League. Junior League raises money for various organizations and also promotes volunteerism.Â
 Approximately six years ago I moved back to Cullman and have practiced with the firm of Knight Griffith, LLP until May 2012. I have had the privilege of representing the people of Cullman County in all aspects of litigation.Â
I was named by The Cullman Times as one of the top 20 under 40 emerging leaders. Also, I am a current member of Leadership Cullman. I was chosen by the Alabama State Bar as a member of their leadership forum. For the past two years I have served as a member of the board of directors for the Good Samaritan Clinic and will serve as the Vice President in 2012. I am a member of the Rotary Club. Also, I am the Vice President of Second Century Leage-a service organization that raises funds for Brook's Place and DHR.
