You would not know that we are in an economic downturn from the lack of reception we received on a recent visit to So. States Nissan of Apex. I traveled a distance to take my niece car shopping. We chose this dealer.
We drove around the lot to the new cars -- no one came out. We drove up front to the used cars -- no one came out. We sat at the front door, and finally my niece got out of the car and went up and down an entire row looking at used SUV-type models. Still not one salesperson came outside, although there were several looking out the window. It was not a very cold day and it was not raining. But, even that wouldn't prevent a true salesperson.
As we began to leave the lot, I turned the vehicle around so that I could go inside and make a statement. There were four salespersons. No one said a word until i was a few feet towards the middle. Then, I was approached by a woman asking rather nonchalantly if I needed help. After recalling the incident outside and asking about their policy. she said if there is just one of them or others are at lunch, then they may not go outside. I called her attention to the four people.
As my niece stated this is something to blog about -- she was a serious contender in the market for a car, her parents live in Preston -- by the way having a Hummer, a Land Rover and a 2010 Charger. She's a nurse and has her own money.
But, unfortunately we were already ""evaluated"" by the color of our skin. I guess we chalk this up to Driving While Black (DWB) on the Nissan Parking lot. Don't worry, we won't be back. We don't beg people to take our money!
