Best local chinese food 3/18/2008

NJ is known for chinese food where every dish has frozen peas and carrots. John's in Edgewater is as good as most places in Manhattan and the only place you want to get local delivery from. The radish cookies are great and nothing has frozen peas and carrots. Pros: Good quality chinese in NJ Cons: None. more

The food is terrible. We live not far from the restaurant. Ones, I was passing by the restaurant and sneaked a peak into open kitchen door. Oh My God! Kitchen is so dirty! I wish I knew that before I had dinner in that place. more

Do Not Order from Here -- Poor Taste and Quality 6/22/2007

My husband and I ordered delivery from John's Shanghai and we don't recommend anyone else make the same mistake we did. The food was terrible to say the least. The steamed pork dumplings had no taste -- we wouldn't even feed it to our dog. The egg drop/wonton soup tasted like water and had the consistency of soft jello! The sesame shrimp entree was so overcooked I thought I was eating fried cardboard. If you are looking for high quality Chinese food, we highly recommend Sally Ling's in Fort Lee. more

Frozen soup dumplings 8/14/2005

If you can't make soup dumplings properly, don't add it to your menu and serve frozen ones marked up 4x that of the Chinese grocery store. Cons: Expensive, Terrible Food more

The best chinese food in Edgewater 6/25/2004

Nothing beats Chinatown in the Manhattan or Flushing-Main st, but if you have a craving for really good Chinese, this is the best spot I have been able to find in the Edgewater Area. Easy parking and food comes out quick. Try the Pan Fried Noodles and the Steamed dumplings! more
