I've been to John's before, I purchased a motorcycle jacket from him several years ago, he was a tad grumpy but whatever I ignored it as long as the product was good (which it was). I recently outgrew the jacket so I sold it on eBay. I knew John still had a selection of old stock Vanson jackets so I went over.
I purchased my now second $500 jacket from John. Upon taking it home and sitting on the bike with it I wasn't comfortable with the sleeve length and clearly the jacket had been sitting on the hanger for many many years giving it an odd fit. No problem I haven't had it even a day, I have the receipt, tags are still on I'll return it right? Wrong!
John simply said ""I don't do that"" when I asked for a return a little less than 18 hours later. After much debate and me basically explaining I've bought two $500 jackets from you, I buy Red Wing, I buy Chippewa and other higher end American made items you sell, why would you not try and accommodate me as a customer? I'm not asking for anything crazy, just a simple return, there is no ""all sales are final"" sign anywhere in the store or on the receipt. John finally and reluctantly agreed to a return. After I got there he was again trying not to take the jacket back or give me a return, he was wanting to have me pay him to alter the sleeves, I don't want to cut into a $500 motorcycle jacket, I would prefer to just buy one that fits without compromising the integrity of the jacket. it was very uncomfortable trying to return the item, really had to go through a lot to get him to write me a check (who writes checks for returns on a credit card?) I promptly cashed the check because I thought it odd to receive a check when I purchased the item on credit card.
Upon leaving I said good bye and thanked him for accommodating me with the return. He ignored me and I was on my way to do business elsewhere, I advise you do the same.
