GREAT PLACE! GREAT FOOD! 3/1/2011

My husband and I were downtown recently and wanted to try John's on the recommendation of our son. We found the menu varied and seemed to have something for everyone. My husband had a vegetable plate and I had the Cheeseburger plate. Both were wonderful! My burger was cooked just as I had asked (medium) with my choice of cheeses added (I had Swiss). It was served with the freshest of additions (lettuce and red onion, my request. The oversize patty was seasoned beautifully, juicy and with a nice charcoal grilled flavor. My burger came with an order of THE BEST FRENCH FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD! Hand-cut, home-fry type, so crispy on the outside and flaky and tender on the inside. I did ask the waitress how they made them and she said they were lightly battered and flash fried. And wait til you see what they serve them in! Service was relaxed and very attentive by Amy. I cannot imagine, for the life of me, why people on some of these reviews say the prices here are high. We thought them all very reasonable! We will certainly return to John's! more

LOVE IT1111111111 9/10/2010

I do not for the life of me understand why people think this place is expensive. I have paid more at the local overrated BBQ joints. Food is always good, and if by chance something is not right, it is fixed ASAP. Bartenders are always topnotch more

Decent food but you'll pay out the nose 8/25/2010

The atmosphere and service are excellent, the food is ok, and the prices are very high. I eat here about once every few years, usually because I forget how expensive it is. A decent meal for two usually costs around $50. For that price, I'd rather eat at Surin or only pay $30 and go eat at Silvertron or Rojo. more

Cant see this place staying open very long. Food is ok but not for the price. Pros: OK food Cons: price more

Main Course Brought Too Soon 8/10/2007

JOHN?S CITY DINER\r TRUSSVILLE, AL\r An old neighbor of mine from Falls Church, VA and his wife are coming to see me and Mrs. Flanders this weekend! Bob said, ?pick any restaurant in Trussville and I?ll spot the bill!?\r Well now, I could not let that pass!! We?d been to the City Diner location in B/ham and enjoyed it, so we picked the new John?s in Trussville. I will do my check for snooty waiters, and see what Mrs. Flanders allows. Bob and Merry were very satisfied with the bistro. But we were all a little miffed when they brought the main courses when we had just started our appetizers. ?Let?s move this plate over to fit this plate on the table."" ?What is this, the local Ponderosa,? Mrs. Flanders exclaimed! The Dirty Martini with olives was spectacular; I had two and was going for three when I got the evil eye from Mrs. Flanders!! Oh well! Merry had to send her Scotch Sour back. They never did get it right.\r Appetizers:\r ?We all had the famous John?s slaw. Very good with it?s signature dressing. \r ?I had the Crispy Asian Shrimp. ?Hot and Spicy! Very tasty, indeed.\r ?Merry had the oysters? too breaded.\r ?Bob had the Crab Cake ?delicious! \r ?Mrs. Flanders had a cup of Gumbo; she said she was in Gumbo heaven!\r Since most of us were going in a fish direction, Bob ordered a house Chardonnay. Did I mention Bob was paying for all this?!!\r Main courses:\r ?Mrs. Flanders and Bob had the Beer Battered Shrimp ? it was good but she had, had better.\r ?Merry liked her Crab Cakes.\r ?I feasted on the large prime rib and thought it was done (medium rare) to perfection!!\r For dessert, Bob and Merry split a White Chocolate Bread Pudding which I gathered was yummy and we had a Peanut butter Pie. Celestial! \r While this restaurant has its good points (and I recommend), it needs to regroup and examine how it can improve. Please. Never bring the main course before the appetizers are completed! That really irritates me. This eatery is on the high end for Trussville, and we enjoyed!\r Pros: Food was great! Cons: Never bring main course before you even start appetizezs!!! more
