Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant & Music Club

We have been going to Johnny D's for brunch for several months. The ambiece is great and the service fantastic. There is a wait, but that only shows how wonderful the place is. The waiters and waitresses are eager to please and are very friendly. I have never had a request denied. They go out of their way to make sure that every one has what they want. The food portions are generous and the quality is high. Requests like very crisp bacon are fulfilled. The music is great and Johnny D's is the Place for Sunday Brunch. My husband and I went to the Sunday Jazz Brunch. We loved the ambiance. The decor was a fun blend of funky cool. We were prepared to fall in love with the Jazz Brunch. Then we met our waitress. She was rude, curt and completely unhelpful with our inquires into the coffee blend (to die for). We ordered and were told that we probably didn't need our oatmeal as we had ordered so much food (we ordered one plate each, no side orders) but it came with it anyway..."did we still want it"? As we paid for it, the answer was "bring it anyway." The food was wonderful, the place had a great feel, the service was so insulting that we will never return. Saw Babaloo--great band that kept up a high level of energy for 3 hours. Plenty of room for dancing for the number of people there. The food was ok. The chicken fingers were dry. The sweet potato fries were plentiful and yummy. Portions on entrees were somewhat stingy. The service was fine until the end of the night when there was confusion over whether the tip had already been added to our party of six. The waitress became defensive and told us that not everyone at the table had ordered the $9 food minimum and she had let that go--a policy that we hadn't known about and that she really shouldn't have been concerened with considering we spent over $200 in food and alcohol. A little nit-picky and a poor attitude considering you have to make a special request for ice in your water. Parking is terrible in Davis Square!
