. . . inside is warm and wonderful! This is a scrubbed clean restaurant with old, worn linoleum floors, mismatched china, playful decor and fantastic food (not unlike grandma's kitchen!) I'm not normally a fan of diners, but this place is haute cuisine meets a Hooverville. Keep an eye on the daily specials board because unusual and worthwhile fare shows up there. If you can catch it in season, a Parisienne Omlette for brunch can both fill your belly and make your whole day look a little bit brighter! Don't judge a book by it's cover 3/16/2003

This restuarant is a hidden gold mine for the taste buds. You would never expect the quality of food inside this "trailor park" image. It's like walking into a hitched-up trailor... but after tasting one dish, you'll knoww you're in a five star diner. Awesome food, quaint atmosphere, interestingly decorated, uncommon (but yummy) food combinations. Can be crowded. Nice place to visit on relaxed weekdays/off times to observe the local flavor of Cranston. more

  • The Scene
    Not much bigger than an 18-wheeler, and built of cinderblocks painted brick red, Johnny B's sure isn't inviting from the outside. Get over your first impression: This neighborhood anomaly transforms itself on the inside, where warm wood walls, seasonal decorations, spotless formica tables, gingham curtains and cute mismatched mugs show that someone is paying attention to atmosphere.

    The Food
    What you eat is even better than what you'll see. Chef--not line cook, mind you--David Baccan fancifies the familiar: French toast is made with Portuguese sweet bread; scrambled eggs are flavored with herbs then enriched with cream cheese. Pancakes are golden-hued and fluffy. The mildly spicy Italian sausage is a nicely unconventional addition, too. Dinner, which may feature grilled pork or poached salmon, is served Friday nights only.
