Good, but not close to the best! 10/22/2002

Heard a lot about Johnnie's and went there a few weeks ago. The beef was definitely good, but didn't live up to all the hype. Too small and too expensive. For the BEST - go to Freddie's - at 31st and Union (just east of Halsted)! The beefs are easily twice the size (I'm NOT exaggerating), taste better and are still cheaper. more

Johnnie's is worth the trip. If we can't get into Jean& Judes on River Road , we go to Johnnies for a beef instead. Johnnies may be crowded but the line goes faster. Oh, and what a beef!!!!! Pros: beef, hot dogs, fast moving line Cons: parking, north ave. more

Johnny's addict! 8/8/2002

I'm 26 and I have been coming here practically all my life. I love Johnny's so much I would travel from Chicago's northwest side just to eat an italian beef or combo beef/sausage with sweet peppers. (Let's not forget the italian lemon ice) When I went to college right in RIver Forest, I would go to lunch their almost every day. I've tried everything on the menu and I must say that they are the bomb! Even in the dead of winter, you will see a long line outside! I live in Florida now and we definately do NOT have places like these. Pros: great food, great value, prompt service Cons: no seating inside, sometimes too crowded more

johnnie's by far has the best beef anywhere. always fresh, juicy, and just the right amount of peppers. the italian ice couldn't get anybetter with the lemon rinds in it. despite the lines it is well worth the wait. the combos are also very good. Pros: good off street parki Cons: the lines more
