Joe has the best hot sausage in the burgh. The store is a favorite small town grocery store. Clean as a whistle. He makes his own Cappacola and also has the best fresh meat has to offer. If you are looking for a local small business butcher shop give Joe a try. You might not get the best customer service for deer processing because that is not what Joe is all about. He is a small town grocery store who serves up the best cuts of meats and hand processed sausage around. His Ham Salad is one of my favorites. When you walk back to the meat counter look to the left wall. Joe has one of the best collections of Pitcairn photos and memorabilia in town. Don't go by ... Give Joe's a try. \r \r (Just don't expect him to customize your deer for ya! LOL Go for the sausage instead! That way you won't be disappointed like some folks) I have never been!! He has a great rep from everyone who knows him. It sounds like the fellow below does not have much customer skills. That could always be more of a problem that the business owner himself. more

Best Meat in the Greater Pittsburgh area! EAT AT JOE'S! 1/21/2009

First off, I am NEVER disappointed when ordering meat from Joe's. The shop is a very quaint CLEAN old-fashioned ""no frills"" butcher shop. When you walk in, there is a very small produce cooler. Just your basics, lettuce, tomato, celery, fresh melons, apples, etc. which i understand ""Joe"" gets fresh from Pittsburgh's produce yards. You have two aisles of basic grocery items, canned goods, cleaning products, and a GREAT freah italian breads delivered daily. Finally, last but certainly not least... the star ot the show... the meat dept.\r Here you find amazingly fresh lean choice cut steaks, Joe's signature hot and sweet italian sausage ( a recipe that he has perfected since it's debut in 1976, along with a host of beautiful pork chops, pork roast and farm fresh chicken. Not to mention a first rate luncheon meat case to beat them all! Including Joe's own home made capicola! AWESOME!!!!! However, i think i spelled that wrong. Listen people, its work the trip out to this place for the sausage and the capicola! ALSO FYI you can call in advance. Joe cuts to order! Now that's special, one of a kind service. \r \r TIme to cook some steaks!\r a Pros: fresh meat, specialty cuts, Cons: depending on whre you're coming from, its a little out of the way. more

Do not take your deer here to be proccessed 1/5/2009

Dissapointed!!! I have used four different deer processing services around Western PA and this one is deffinitly below par. The price I was told over the phone for basic processing was 10 dollars below the listed price at the shop. I also figured since it was a butcher shop, it would be done at a licensed meat processing place. Nope, it is done out of the owners garage, he seemed to have the refers. for storing processed meet, but not for storing the carcases or aging meet. They only have a few options of how to get it processed. My family does not like the bone-in steaks, so I asked for more ground meet or roasts, he cut 3 roasts and mostly bone-in steaks. NOT VERY FLEXIBLE!!. Price for sausage was too steep, and not many options, just hot or sweet raw sausage. No smoking, or Jerky. The customer service was not very good either, owner did not appear to be a hunter and almost seemed to be annoyed to deal with hunters and having to spend his nights processing deer at home after running the shop. This was the first deer I harvested close to home (Monroeville) and I wanted to take it somewhere close. I will drive a bit further next time. Wow I wish I could review lower, after opening some of the roasts/steaks, I wish I could give my deer back and get my money. The roasts aren't trimmed at all, still hair, and grissle/ateries and bone in the roasts, why would I pay 75 bucks to have my deer processed only to have to come home and clean up/ trim and debone the ROASTS!! I can't even eat them, they look unclean and unfit to eat. This place needs to loose their license if they have one! more
