Dr. Joe Mitchell received his DDS degree from The Ohio State University where he also completed his orthodontic residency.He was awarded both a Certification in Orthodontics & a Master of Science in Biology degree. This special designation is achieved by only one in five University trained orthodontists.. Metal Braces - Metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today s braces are much smaller and more comfortable making them much more attractive. Self Ligating Brackets - This type of bracket utilizes sliding door technology known as self ligation that allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket. No elastic or steel ties are needed for these types of braces. Retainers - Some minor orthodontic problems can be corrected with retainers. Retainers can be used on the upper and/or lower teeth. Ceramic Braces - Ceramic braces are made from a translucent tooth colored (clear) material. They are the most popular with our adult patients. They are barely visible on the teeth unless you look very closely. Invisalign (No Braces) - The Invisalign System is a series of clear aligners that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth.
